I believe he has a win over Darmani Rock in the amateurs, too, though I'm not 100% on that.

It would be great to see Kariru in the mix at the Pro HW level.

 

Looked at Boxrec yesterday and they aren't listing any result for it despite the fight still being scheduled for January 25th. I don't think the boxing world was hanging on the outcome - but it would be good to know what happened there.

Yes! I remember now. I think the fight is on YT...gotta rewatch that one of these days.

 

There's definitely a lack of quality journeyman caliber HW fighters in N. America right now, but this doesn't seem like a useful "step-up" fight for R.A.

Alfonso doesn't rush his work - but it's hard to see Austin lasting more than a few rounds here. The man is 48 after all and he was sent off to the hospital by Gerald Washington at the end of their fight 2 1/2 years ago. I'm hoping for Ray's sake that he quits on his stool a few rounds.

It seems like one HW fighter after another has been coming out of retirement or an extended period of inactivity these past few weeks (Ray Austin, Yasmany Consuegra, Alonzo Butler).

Here's another for you.

Boxrec is now reporting Donovan Dennis will be Stephan Shaw's opponent March 2nd.

I can't view Donovan's Boxrec profile at the moment but I know he's 12-3, a southpaw, and still relatively-young.

He got stopped brutally by both Jarrell Miller (his last fight - which as early 2016) and Fedosov. But he didn't look totally out of his depth against Fedosov. And he has a KO win over Cojanu (like I said...he's a southpaw ;-) ). The man can punch.

Donovan Dennis hasn't fought in 3 years - so I don't know how much ring rust he'll be carrying. Nor do I know what sort of shape he will be in. I figure Shaw will use his movement to create his preferred working distance to Dennis, strafe Dennis with his excellent jab, and just break him down in the last half of their fight.
