Yeah both have jumped through the required hoops more than once to get a title shot, but as long as Wilder is WBC champion I don't think the WBC will be very forceful when enforcing their mandatories. Wilder has had 1 mandatory in over 4 years as champion, being the WBC mandatory right now is meaningless. Honestly I'd say there's less than a 50% chance that Wilder fights his mandatory this year. Wilder may lose to Fury and then there would be a 3rd fight and then winner fights Joshua. Maybe Wilder beats Fury so no 3rd fight and then he ducks Joshua to fight his mandatory but I don't see that the most likely outcome.
Looking forward now to when Whyte beats the winner of Wilder vs Fury then we can finally have a fight for the undisputed HW champion between Whyte vs AJ.
I think Wilder and Fury are good at keeping opponents at range.. and away from their bodies. This is a concern for me on Whyte's ability to trade... breazeale likes to come forward and doesn't do that. And AJ as much as he tries to use his jab to keep range... he is still always closer to shorter opponents than Wilder or Fury to be hit. If Whyte can overcome the elusiveness of taller guys like Wilder and Fury then he should do well.
He was getting worked over against Ugonoh, before Ugonoh ran out of gas and Breazeale got the stoppage.
His boxing is underrated as well, his jab is prolific and he’s learnt on the job, last fight against Chisora he held back from going all in early on and seemed to know he’d get the knockout later on. This fight against a big HW should tell us more imo.
Yeah he paced himself against Chisora because the more you hit Chisora the more he comes forward lol Whytes jab is underrated because he knows the effectiveness of the jab in boxing... and he has unusually long reach because many guys think they are out of range then bam it hits you. He uses the jab a lot to score points, knock his opponents rythm and set up shots.
I don't get it, why duck a title shot vs AJ to fight someone else in an eliminator for a title shot. That is unless he doesn't believe he can beat AJ (which he can't) Sooner this hype job whyte gets exposed the better. I hope DB KO's him
I don't get why he didn't take the AJ fight either, he priced himself out in my opinion. When you consider how much money he is making now with him reaching PPV level in the UK and the fact he was brutally knocked out in the first fight, I can see why he'd want as much money as possible for an AJ rematch because he's almost guaranteed to get brutally KO'ed again and then his paydays may take a hit. Going the WBC route makes most sense if he's doubting his chances with AJ, Wilder is seen as the weaker champion, it's a more winnable fight. Breazeale will give him another decent payday though in reality even if he wins I don't think it gets him any closer to a Wilder shot any time soon.
@infini IV Probably the last time I'll comment on the topic of Whyte declining the AJ rematch offer: The money offered by AJ was low, and the rematch split was ridiculous. AJ = 25 Millions Whyte = 5 Million Yeah AJ is the bigger draw, but FIVE times as much? Nah bro.... stop sniffing that crack cocaine. Rematch split 70/30, then 60/40, then 50/50. Wow... AJ is really making this easy and reasonable. Want's to economically rinse Whyte to death. "Fighting AJ should be a very financially lucrative proposition so it’s worth rinsing it for what he can" - Twentyman. Gameplan 1 - Go WBO mandatory route, get rematch 80/20 split BUT no rematch clause. If AJ wants a rematch he can take what Whyte gives him as penance for being a low-balling, greedy wank. Gameplan 2 - Get into position as WBC mando... whenever it gets called... at least he is in position... get a WBC Belt... go back to AJ with more bargaining power, secure a world title shot with tons of cash. If plan 1 and 2 fails then he may have had two title shots, and and lost then he will have made a lot of money anyways and given it a go. If he decides to stick around, he can do it all over again. If plan 1 or 2 suceed, then he has made a lot more money + legacy
Let's be Honest he wants no part of AJ because he's simply not good enough to beat him. Can you seriously see AJ going life and death for 23 rounds with serial loser Chisora?? No exactly! Whyte thinks Wilder is an easier opponent and wants the easy route to a title, fair play to him, just don't go on about how you will fight anyone, come clean say you can't beat AJ and want an easy title
But that doesn't make any sense at all? It is likely he will make more money challenging AJ then Wilder? So you are saying he wants the belt more then he wants the money? This is against all the actions he has displayed! Why would Whyte be scared to fight AJ? He called him out to his face after Chisora, and walked away when AJ hesitated. Whyte can just fight AJ and lose and make lots of money whats the problem? The problem is he wants more money because he feels he is worth more and GUESS WHAT..... he is going to go and prove it and make it happen. So stop saying Whyte wants to no piece of AJ that is bull****,
I believe Whyte is more confident of winning a fight against the Fury and Wilder winner than he ia fighting AJ again. Hence why whyte is asking for an extortionate amount to fight AJ.
