It seems everyone is on Joshua's case these days. He needs to do this, he must do that, etc.

he only needs to go to america to keep dazn happy as they will be hoping it boosts there subscription numbers. UK boxing is where its at right now.

 

If only one country I'd go wherever my likely fan base would make me the most money. The Sturms and Abrahams of the world are going to make the most (if not get the best competition) in Germany. For some this is Japan, or the UK or the US. I wouldn't say there is a one size fits all answer for that.

Boxing is blooming over there, while in the US hardly anyone cares about it. Also less of a chance to get robbed blind everytime you go up against one of their own.

 

well, thats 3 out of a couple hundred poster on here at any one time, willing to go the oddball way. surely there must be more mavericks among us with their own interesting rationale.

 

In the post I was responding to it was stating if you could ONLY choose one country what would it be. Clearly that would vary based upon the fighter. As a fan I feel most fighters should travel on occasion (to get the best opposition and garner the biggest fan base possible). That being said while the US has the highest ceiling for potential profit with the ppv structure, it is incredibly difficult to be that kind of mega star in a country that doesn't care for the sport as much as it should.

 

No matter what you UK fans say, not fighting in the USA is leaving money on the table plain and simple.

 

Why would Joshya want to fight in US? in US you need a KO to win. Too many fighters were robbed there already and many careers destroyed.

 

yes, i said only, so i could narrow it down to the most obvious choice. the mood of the thread had turned into a "americans think they are the most important market in the boxing world" thing. i wanted to find out what other markets were more important and why. or rather, i wanted to find out the reasoning for going against the most obvious choice.
give a rising japanese boxing star a choice between uk and america, an african star between germany and america, any star a choice between america and any other country.

 

Not if you lose your belts and with them most of your earning capacity at the scorecards of LA or Vegas.

AJ made nearly 50m dollars last year and will probably top that this. He's not doing too badly, so the pull of the money to be made in the US isn't quite as strong as it has been in previous eras.

 

So he's afraid to leave his home country for fear of losing on the cards? Normally people around here are highly critical of that attitude.

He didn't do badly, but he's leaving money on the table. There's a reason why the biggest fights are here. When's the last time the UK hosted a major fight not featuring a UK native? The UK is no more innocent in favoring their own fighters than any other country
