Rumours of this one in the making. Both trainers and promoters have publicly declared interest in this.

I'd very much look forward to this fight. Despite Kovalev avenging the Alvarez defeat, I still think he's well past it, and I reckon he would be very susceptible to Smith's body attacks.

Question is how would Smith react to being chin-checked off someone with Kovalev's power?

Personally, I would lean towards Smith via late KO.

I'd expect Callum to be the clear underdog in that one and rightly so. He has a chance against current Kovalev though.

Smith has a chance if he can work the body properly but getting inside Kova isn't going to be a particularly fun task. He sure as Hell isn't Ward

Kova is definitely past his best he won his last fight on boxing skills but his power is waning. Power equals mass times acceleration and aging is the loss of mass therefore a fighter's punch is the first thing to go.

How would loss of mass decrease his power if he weighs exactly the same? Where has he lost any mass? If anything, acceleration would be what is declining. Regardless, power is usually the last thing to go, not the first. Reflexes, punch resistance, and stamina are usually what is effected first.

Really? At what weight? Smith is a specimen but relatively green.. He hasn't made any noise about 175 either! I can't see it ..

& regardless, Kovalevs legacy is secure now anyway, everything from here on (at his age) is simply icing on the cake for me..

I'd like to see it tho

Callum is a bit of a weird one. He looked like complete crap against skoglund but then goes and does a job on groves

I’m going with Kovalev via stoppage but wouldn’t be surprised if smith pulls something special out of his arse

Just did a bit of googling, 175..

Interesting. Well fair play if true, because there's no one better than Kovalev at 168 for him anyway...

Kovalev a heavy handed, great mid to long range fighter versus another tall hard hitting, technical, mid to long range guy... Old versus new. It's actually intriguing the more I think about it ..

Dangerous fight for both men. I think Smith is really good but he should be back in the ring by now. Sergey looks really good with Mcgirt, respect to Callum if its made...

I won't make a prediction until its made tho

@Liquorice Kovalev will be physically unable to make 168. For him it's 175 or the cruiserweight.

Good fight, tough to predict at this point as well. Can Smith take Kovalev's power? Who wins if it's a boxing match? Can Smith break down Kovalev to the body?

Very weird, looked incredible against Groves and the new found power was odd?

Why Callum don't want the fight with Bivol? BIvol is ready to go down for Smith, he even talk about that in his instagram, but the british champion, for some reason didn't what to fight with Bivol?

Actually, power is the last thing to go while speed, reflex, punch resistance, and aggresiveness are more evident when fighters start to slip.

Kovalev’ power is the same but his mentality is different after the losses. He doesnt throw punches with the same conviction as he used to which is why his power appears to be diminished.

Power isnt an issue with him. It’s work ethic and his state of mind. I actually like the composed Kovalev who boxes more.
