Plenty of talk Tszyu is heading to the US to do some sparring with some of the big guns over there. I think he's more likely to go with Top Rank / ESPN than Fast Eddie / DAZN. Or he may just stay a free agent for the time being. He does need someone to start paying for higher quality opponents though.
I think he is better off with Hearn. Hearn has a weaker stable and can bring him along easier. Top Rank will be sink or swim as even in the beginning they will match him with Mexican journeyman who will not fold.
Tszyu seems like the kind of guy Hearn would want as he could build off his name like he is doing with Conor Benn. Hearn could give him guys like Eggington, Rabchenko and maybe Brandon Rios. Top Rank he will be buried on a non televised under card against a Mexican journeyman that will probably give him more hell than the guys I mentioned as potential opponents.
* This Sun Fox Sports 505 from midday AEDT. WBA 126 lb Champion Leo Cruz vs Rafael Riveria plus Omar Figuero Jr vs Jon Molina Jr at 147 lbs. * Saw Bilal Akkawy on the Bill and Boz Show on Fox. What a humble young man and a credit to Aust Boxing. He said he hopes to fight a rated fighter in May on the Canelo vs Jacobs undercard and being WBA no 3 he hopes to fight for the 168 lb Title vacated by Canelo before the end of the yr. * Rohan Murdock no 4 WBO at 168 lbs has a home fight scheduled for the Gold Coast June. Details to come. * A blast from the past former Olympian Justin Crawford. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
The Tim Tszyu - Michael Zerafa situation is interesting. There's been a bit of noise since Tszyu's win on Friday night that he's now the "mandatory" for Zerafa's WBA Oceania belt. Tszyu in fact won the "interim" WBA Oceania belt on Friday night. Tszyu has also expressed the view that Zerafa is one of only two Australian fighters who's worth facing. I don't agree with that statement but it seems odd that there is a buzz about Tszyu being Zerafa's "mandatory" when until recently Zerafa was also the Commonwealth Light Middleweight champ & Tszyu was the "mandatory" for that title as well. Zerafa elected not to defend it & Tszyu apparently received a sanction to fight for the vacant title against English champ, Adam Harper. Harper then pulled out & Tszyu couldn't get a sanction for the replacement opponent. Now Tszyu is the "mandatory" for another of Zerafa's titles & this time around there is some noise about the fact. Will be interesting to see if things play out any differently to what they did with the Commonwealth title. I would have thought the key to getting Zerafa in a boxing ring with Tim the Toolman is to pay him the right amount of money to take the risk that a Tszyu fight represents.
Liam Paro this weekend v Massimiliano Ballisai in Mackay Queensland . Tyson Best v Dillon Bargero as well . Australia looking strong as more an more boxer's turn Pro , next few year's will only get Better .
* Fox Boxing Schedule. March 10 Shawn Porter vs mandatory contender Cuban Yordenis Ugas. March 17 Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia PPV. April 20 Danny Garcia vs Adrian Granados. *Justin Hodges is likely to fight in Brisbane in April as his promoter Matt Rose hopes to match Gallen with former Warrior's winger Manu Vatuvei in a Aust - NZ Boxing Test Match before pitting Gallen against Hodges in a State of Origin Clash. * Dean Lonegran is working on a deal for the Hornet to fight in May. Two world champs Rob Brant WBA MW Champ and Brain Casanto WBA JMW are among the options being considered. Horn's wife Jo is due to give birth to their second child in June and Horn has told his promoter he will take six months off and will not be ready again to box again until Nov if a fight can't be made. Ferocious finally starting to get some recognition. This content is protected
I stated to read this post with some interest with fights involving Spence, Porter, Garcia etc, then you mentioned JUSTIN HODGES in the next breath and your post went from an 8 star post to a 2 star in seconds.
Hometown Mackay Liam Paro 22 yr old WBO no 4 at JW big bout at the Mackay Entertainment Centre Sat night is a sellout. In fact the tickets were sold out 5 weeks ago . If the Prodigy wins he is eyeing a fight with unbeaten Turkish Olympian Faith Keles WBO no 12. He hopes then if successful to fight the WBO Champ Maurice Hooker by Christmas. Hooker is vulnerable as he won the title by split dec over Terry Flannagan and was knocked down and hurt by Alex Saucedo who is known to Aust Boxing for his win last yr over Lenny Zappavigna. Kerry Foley and Bilal Akkaway trading bombs as Foley prepares for his up coming fight March 30 against Michael Van Nimwegen. 22 March is Judgement Day for Australian boxing. We often get criticized when guys who aren't particularly well credentialed fight overseas & get flogged. I think that's unfair b/c more often than not the fighter concerned is no-where near the best we have to offer in a particular weight class. That won't be the case on 22 March. Andrew Moloney fights in South America & Jai Opetaia fights in Europe. Both are genuinely among the best fighters we have. A loss to either fighter would be a significant blow to our chances of picking up another world championship & to the development of our best talent. I'm predicting a double victory for Australia on the day but the pressure will be on.
* According to reports Mundine is going to face Zerafa next. However not surprisingly they are struggling to find a promoter who will stump up the money to make it and it appears that this fight is no guarantee to attract attention from Fox this time. If it doesn't come off Zerafa has offers abroad as he has a World ranking and his game effect against Brooks impressed many. * Opetia fight with Laggoune is Opetia toughest fight to date with Laggoune IBF no 7 and Boxrec no 27 at CW. The winner is likely to move into the top 5 with both the WBO and IBF as Usyk is moving to HW the division might split right up opening plenty of opportunities. * One to follow is LHW Isaac Hardman who is 3 - 0 all by 1st rd ko. He debuted against a opponent who hadn't be beaten in 6 outings. Then fought Matt Sheenhan who had a solid AM record was 2- 0. Then on the Gallen vs Hopate undercard he did it again against respected AM prospect Po Lopeti on debut stopping him in devastating style. Hardman had no AM exp but is 9 -0 in MMA. * Liam Paro won his fight in Mackay. However he suffered two broken hands and it looks like he will be sideline for a while. * Tysinn Best makes 1st defense of Aust 147 lb Title.
