I was just going to mention Chilemba.. I agree Bellew lost that first fight. Kovalev really has a good resume, will fight all comers.. Bellew was getting dropped by Euro level fighters like McKenzie & Ajisafe at 175, his punch resistance wasn't great. He fought at HW as an amateur didn't he?
you're really bending overbackwards to discredit a really good win. I could say that, before Kovalev who did alvarez beat? and discredit it too. but I won't since I know that's a great win. of course at the time nearly everyone on this fickle board picked Bellew to beat Stevenson then with the excuses to not count it.
meh I don't think Chilemba actually won any of these fights. Alvarez? bivol? Kovalev? I think chilemba lost all 3. the guys just didn't look amazing vs him but I don't think he won 7 rounds vs a single one. at times late he was being 100% picked apart and hit with everything
I still pick Kovalev but if everyone is bending over backwards to discredit an entire long run, you could do the same with almost every fighter.
Give over. Did you see Bellew on the scales at all? He was reaching dangerous levels of weight at the weigh-in. You can't seriously say that it didn't affect his performance in the ring. Same applies to Inoue against McDonnell. McDonnell was dead at the weight. I'm not saying that Inoue wouldn't have beaten him, he probably would have. But surely McDonnell would have lasted longer had he not been weight drained. Compare bellew from back then to Bellew against usyk. You can see that his natural weight is around the 200 mark. 175 is absolute insanity for him.
No he legit lost to the elite guys at 175 but he's an awkward customer who pushed the likes of Alvarez close, edged out Bellew & beat the likes of Vlasov etc good gauge fighter .. B level guy I suppose.
KRUSHERs best performances. Beating Ward by 2-3points in 1st fight (unofficially) Best opponent either have faced by a long while. Schooling a top 3 lhw Alvarez in a rematch where he got KO'd first. Smashing the hell out of Pascal twice (never done before) never has been done since! other good performances KRUSHING Cleverly taking his 0 in his hometown Shutout of Very old and past it but still Wily and Grandmaster B.hopkins Beating the hell out of Chinny Gatekeeper Gabriel Campillo when he was onform and a decent win. sturdy names not iparticularly impressive performances Lagging and not the most impressive win against tricky and tough Isaac Chilemba Stevensons best performances Sledgehammering Dawson in 1 rounds Smashing Fonfara in 2 rounds in a rematch KOing a chinny and limited but dangerous fighter in Thomas williams Jr other good performances Beating Drained but top 10lhw Bellew easily, wasnt too impressive but he did do it! Getting a draw vs Badou Jack a top 6 lhw at the time Sakio Bika UD, tough and complicated notthing special. *not sure how this performance was. havent watched it. Kovalev has a deeper resume for sure. Better Performances against the better opposition! Stevenson doesnt have much depth, but does have some decent KO's.
the Kovalev fight was very close too. We're going to have to agree to disagree with your comment I feel you are bending over backwards while doing a handstand to come up with what you're saying. and not sure you even agree.
I think I had it 116-111 SK. It was a fairly clean and obvious win for Kovalev from what I recall.. Chilemba didn’t do quite enough to win more rounds than that, other than making Kovalev look uncomfotable at times.
Kovalev ducked stevenson too, remember how he run away. Stevenson is a lot of bad things, but at least he doesn cry like a litle babygirl when he gets beaten.
True that, Even B-Hop had the choice Stevenson or Kovalev. B-Hop knew Kovalev was a more winnable fight. Prime Stevenson 1-2 was way more athletic & destructive than anything Kovalev brought to the table.
