Miller is something of a tester for AJ to see how popular he could be in America. If it's a total wipeout he can still come home and make big money. If it's a major success who knows - he may fight there for good.

Wilder is a far trickier fight on paper and naturally you'd want the fight loaded in your favour if you're the name bringing the money. (Which Joshua obviously is.)

 

What would count as a major success? DAZN adding 400k new subscriptions?

 

Who knows, but the money men will inevitably have an idea. If it generates more than what they have set as a target then that will be that.

It's purely a financial issue at the end of the day. When Joshua was talking about himself being the A side he was doing that against how much Wilder makes. And Joshua makes a hell of a lot more.

 

Because they've been backed into a corner by Whyte, Wilder and Fury.

I definitely think he's lost some of the golden boy appeal he's built up. One look at his twitter feed and the replies to his video announcing the Miller fight and you can see what the casuals think now of him and his choice of opponent. This isn't just based on one or two tweets either. It's much more than that. These casuals are ultimately the ones who buy the pay per views so just shows how you cant take the fans for granted for too long. They will start to realise soon or later.

 

Completely this. His appeal with the casuals diminished slightly as a result of the Parker and Takam fights and his inability to knock either out, which is the sole thing that his casual support wants to see.

He rectified that with a much better fight from a viewing perspective against Povetkin but British casuals only recognise four names really in the HW division today: Joshua, Wilder, Fury and Whyte (to a lesser extent). A fight against Miller has gone down like a lead balloon amongst all the casuals I know in person and on social media as you pointed out.

 

It's partly an ego thing in my view, plus as was said in post #2 there's a bit of wanting all the advantages possible in such a big fight.

 

Think the landscapes changed since September USA makes more commercial sense than it did before.

 

Highest career purse plus near 100% chance of victory. A win win situation if ever there was one.

The rift developing between Sky and MR over the US move could well be the end of the love affair. Sky board members bonuses don't pay themselves.

 

Because at the time Wilder had zero profile there also but now thanks to the Fury fight although not a huge seller has opened up the market for absolutely huge fights in America , the Wilder Fury rematch and possible trilogy will do well commercially and the unification fight has the potential to be absolutely humongous.

 

Because this is on DAZN.

And the negotiations for Wilder wouldn’t have been anywhere near as simple.
