I hope Sokolowski comes to win. I feel as if he just being brought in to survive and give Browne rounds though.
Balogun knocked out Phelps in the 1st round. Not a surprise. I watched Joe Cusumano club a helpless Phelps like a baby seal a couple years ago. Although Cory did manage to make it to the 2nd round in that fight.
Speaking of Cusumano... https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...e-vacant-since-walcott-vs-charles-iii.624530/
An excerpt from a newspaper article in Tuscaloosa: "In the night’s first co-main event, Robert Alfonso, an unbeaten Cuban fighter now living and training in Tuscaloosa, took a unanimous decision over veteran Ray Austin of Cleveland, Ohio. Alfonso, now 18-0 in his career, dominated the fight although he never put Austin in serious danger of a knockout."
Jerry Forrest - who - to my own surprise - managed an early stop of Lamont Capers - will be fighting Grover Young for the 3rd time next month. Grover Young is known for 4 things: a) As a light heavyweight, putting a smear on Kovalev's record by earning a draw - courtesy of being hit (very, very questionably) behind the ear by Sergey b) Putting on about 75 lbs. in the 12 months that followed "a" c) Flattening Daniel Martz in a manner that not even Luis Ortiz could manage d) Being a boxer with the first name Grover Last time he fought Forrest, Jerry dropped him by blatantly hitting Jerry repeatedly behind the head. Grover leapt up, stamped his feet, gave the ref an earful - got DQ'ed for his trouble, and had his license revoked for one year in Virginia. So it's an interesting fight - if only because of the obvious bad blood between the two of them.
Yeah, he's fighting Brandon Barrett who managed to go the distance against Kennedy against all expectations. Apparently his MMA experience helped him a bit there.
BeantownAll (or anyone) ... just a quick question. Do any young-ish US HWs spring to mind who are currently under the radar, but have the potential to be - not so much belt contenders - but at least world top 30 (or better) types?
Trevor Bryan springs to mind, Michael Hunter Jr and Jermaine Franklin is there also. Hunter Jr is the best of the bunch because of his amateur and pro credentials. Bryan is the second best US heavyweight who just waits for his opportunity.
“I was back home in Morecambe and I needed a sparring partner,” Fury said to The Sun. “The first person that sprang to mind was Jarrell Miller, I thought he’ll be good sparring for me. “Obviously I wasn’t a world champion at the time, he came over to Morecambe and we sparred at a local gym. I’m not going to go into too much detail, but I hired him for two weeks sparring, I ended up sending him back home after one day sparring. “I put him down seven times in the first spar and I sent him home packing back to the USA.”
