Fury v Joshua is surely

I don't like AJ and I do like Fury, but still would think it's at least a 60/40 split in AJs favour.

 

Lets see who Fury faces next and how the USA react to AJ and his performance vs Miller, but it certainly starting to look like its shaping that way.

 

The fight won’t happen unless it’s 50/50. That’s quite obvious. Too many egos involved.

 

Where is the fight? A fighters commercial value is a result of what he brings to the table, in pulling power, belts etc. AJ is a proven draw in his domestic market, Fury isn't. If the fight is in the UK, 50/50 is a non starter.

If the fight is in the US as ESPN would presumably demand, then there could be a case. Fury is maybe better known there since the Wilder fight although he still isn't bringing any belts to the table and his new deal makes it problematic for AJ due to his relationship with DAZN. But do the US want to see two British heavyweights fight? Wouldn't the fight do better in the UK at Wembley?

The real question though is what options each fighter has if they don't fight each other. AJ has a home market he can continue to exploit. Can Fury deliver the numbers ESPN need if he's not facing the big names? If he can, then his position is stronger and he can wait for a bigger cut, which AJ may or may not give him depending on his other options.

Joshua is getting $32 million for the Miller fight also which blows anything Fury has done/doing out of the water.

60/40 is more than reasonable

 

Completely agree with 60/40 in Joshua’s favour. Revenue wise he is the money man. Also holds 3 of the belts. Yes ESPN will back Fury but it will be primarily to get the Joshua revenue.

If AJ sells out MSG and generates a much bigger gate than Wilder v Fury then AJ has the advantage both sides of the Atlantic.

 

I don’t think it’s a case of what a fighter deserves, it’s what it takes to make the fight happen. All this ‘negotiation’ is just another name for squabbling over who’s got the biggest dick.

 

Yeah, a lot of this now depends on what they do in the fights which are on the horizon.

We know Joshua can generate sizeable revenue without the other two. The same can't really be said for Fury at this stage. I have to say that whilst his performance against Wilder was commendable, I genuinely struggle to see how a light-hitting, pretty fat, low-activity, defensive-minded foreign heavyweight can become a genuine superstar in America. He's not even that big a star in the UK.

Little point in debating what we already know. It's now a waiting game to see what happens to Fury in terms of opposition and how he performs financially.

 

Try not to think how many people watched the fight ‘live’, instead think of the many many millions who watched the fight afterwards, the 12th round, the knockdown, the memes, funny clips etc. The popularity from all that is/was huge. He is a household name over here and is building a decent profile over there. He has built himself as a mental illness ambassador to which the American public are much more amenable to than us lot who are stereotypically still quite reticent (although we are as a nation becoming more aware and receptive to mental illness).

He can build a fight, talk the talk, he is charismatic, funny and he is entertaining in the right fight. Goading, hands behind the back, climbing up off the canvas from brutal shots etc. He’s a great boxer, too.

I’m sure Joshua will become a big hit over there too after he’s pummelled Miller. It isn’t about Joshua v Fury commercially...this is about British heavyweight boxing currently being the best in the world.

As I've said, we'll see. Fury has been a pro for ten years now and his popularity in the UK isn't that high. People have seen him fight, seen him sell fights, seen him land his five jabs a round thing and stick his tongue out. He's just not really like any massively popular boxer we've ever produced.

I mean, Joshua is a lot more popular, and a lot more boring. He says the bland cliches, he talks about staying hungry, he's not exactly that engaging. Fury's like a stand up comic in comparison, but try as you might to say his out of the ring chat makes him popular, it's never translated into sales has it?

 

He’s just had the hugely defining fight. From that he’s just been offered a huge deal with ESPN. The Americans seem to think differently to yourself.
