Yeah that's what I think. ESPN seem to be willing to spend more money at the moment with his deal with Fury, while Wilder can't even get an exclusive deal with Showtime. Because the WBC have mandated the fight, if it goes to purse bids and Fury wins it will force the fight to be on ESPN whether Finkel or Haymon like it or not. Finkel has come out and said he wants a deal where the fight is shown on ESPN and Showtime, but I can't see ESPN having just paid a fortune for their new signing just letting him fight on a rival network. I suspect this will go to purse bids. But it's a dangerous game Fury is playing. He has to win the bid for this to play out, there a good chance the rematch never happens if he doesn't win the purse bid.
Yeah Hearn has said he's going to throw in a big bid. But I don't see the point of him bidding other than to disrupt things for Fury/Wilder. If he somehow wins the bid there's no chance of Fury agreeing the fight as he's tied to ESPN, he can't accept the fight even if he wanted to in those circumstances. But knowing Hearn he'll still bid just to mess things up and annoy Warren.
Wilder says he's a free agent and can fight on any network as he's not tied to anyone. That's exactly the right thing to say, he needs to pressure Finkel and Haymon to make the deal. If anyone's going to kill the fight now it's Finkel and Haymon. Says he will fight in May no matter what and if not Fury will be Breazeale, Kownacki or Whyte. I suspect his preference will be in that order. Breazeale has been mandatory for a while now. https://talksport.com/sport/boxing/496503/free-agent-deontay-wilder-tyson-furys-deal-dillian-whyte/
Fade into bolivian. Not only has he been exposed personally, but the fraud train that created an maintained him has been exposed. Might as well go ahead and sell his belt to Joshua now.
I think it might affect AJ the most. Wilder won't fight him - according to Hearn - and now Fury doesn't need to. Without a break in any potential impasse, Joshua will be left as the only one of the top three HWs who has not faced one of the other two - that impacts on his credibility - and with little room for maneuver unless Matchroom start offering a bigger slice of the pie. Fury and Wilder have shown they can do business by having already fought, so if AJ doesn't make a fight with either or both of the other contenders, he's going to come off looking worse. The cost to him will either be financial or reputational. Yes, he will still earn good money dealing with sub-par opposition, but for how much longer?
I think those problems are relatively easy to handle, especially for an astute guy like Hearn. He's already made one step by offering credible offers such as a 60/40 split to Wilder. As long as they're on the table the question then falls Wilder or Fury why they're not pushing to make the fight. Hearn has the best heavyweight roster which gives him other options. AJ's also in a far stronger position commercially. He has time on his side too, how long can Wilder afford to wait him out before those reflexes slow and he loses his window? He doesn't have great earning options once Fury is out of the picture. Will Fury be able to retain his current support once he's fighting second rate opposition in the US? How many of the people who liked a 30 second video on YouTube actually watched him box for more than a minute? That style may not play well with the casual fan and the back from the brink narrative doesn't have an endless shelf life. Also, will Fury enjoy as long a career given the damage he's done to his body? He may also have a window that starts to close. Each of them can try and wait AJ out, but boxing doesn't stop in the meantime. Aside from mandatories, Whyte will always be an option for him in the domestic market, others will be built over the next year, Hunter say or Hrgjovic, most of all Usyk is on the horizon and he could very rapidly be the biggest challenger out there, leaving Fury and Wilder looking irrelevant trapped on their side of the street.
He may not be tied to a network, but he will surely be tied to Haymon? They're clearly not fighting each other next. Arum has said as much. Sheesh, the fact that Arum now has a say on all this sucks.
True but with Joshua signing a £100 mill deal with SKY and Matchroom last year and now Fury signing with ESPN for £80 mill he's got to be now thinking that he's being under paid and he'd be right. Money has flooded into us Boxing as these new platforms battle in out to be the Netflix of sport in the US. It's a great time to be a US based boxer right now, there's so much money up for grabs and Wilder will want a piece of that, Haymon did well for him when there was little money in the game but the game has changed. While clearly Arum looks like he's going to milk Fury, I just hope the WBC mandated fight at least forces his hand. He could ignore it but ESPN will want to make the fight at some point, they didn't pay Fury this much to just fight Pulev or one of the other top rank heavies.
Astute in terms of making deals, I agree. But dealing with his peers? He doesn't burn bridges as much as blow them up. His arrogance is going to be the biggest issue going forward. He openly spoke of taking over the American market and that boast is coming back to bite. For a deal to be made, people have to be willing to work together and without good working relations with his rivals, Hearn will now have to up offers to get others round the table. He's messed this side of things up so much, it would not surprise me if, when AJ retires, he is working with someone else or via his own promotional company....
Wilder shall continue to walk this earth like Caine in Kung Fu....the only difference is that he will be fighting fatty after fatty.
You're right, his arrogance and over confidence has cost him at times. Booking Wembley for example and of course the declaration he's take over in American and what's happened is more money has flooded the market so he's no longer the only guy with deep pockets. Problem Hearn has had he's had it so good in the UK making Warren his whipping boy that it's made him at times complacent. US market is tougher to crack and he doesn't have the same connections other have, money alone isn't enough it's about who you know. Hence why the WBC have often worked against his plans. But it's still early days yet and if Joshua/Miller is a success and with DAZN signing Canelo and Jacobs getting a truly insane payday plus another 2 lucrative fights, things are not looking to bad for Hearn and DAZN.
