Hard to see the argument for Toney here. He had some great wins, but was wildly inconsistent throughout his career. The loss to Jones alone makes it very hard to rank Toney ahead of him, given how utterly one-sided it was.

Hopkins has his amazing longevity as the main argument in his favor and he's 1-1 with Roy, but the first fight weighs more heavily to me just as Roy's superior dominance in his prime does. What might give Hopkins the nod, though, is that he's the only one of these three to never have tested positive for PEDs.

Someone posted a really good Jack Johnson tribute a bit ago here too.

    Toney
    Hopkins

Toney's best wins are better than Hopkins' - Prime Nunn, Jirov, McCallum, Johnson, Barkley, Williams and an old Holyfield

What are Hopkins' best wins ? Blown up welterweights Trinidad and ODLH, Joppy, Holmes, Pavlik, Johnson, Echols and an old Winky Wright. Good Resume but not great

Yes, but Toney's losses must count too.

He was a very skilled all around fighter. But he was lazy, which resulted in inconsistent performances, and lacked footspeed. Jones overwhelmed him with speed and he was outhustled several times.

Hopkins was much more consistent than Toney.

Jones was basically unbeatable for the first 14 years of his career, save the dq loss to Montell Griffin when he was on the verge of koing him.
