You know, I've read on here some users or former users claiming that Butterbean would be a dangerous opponent to the Brown Bomber. Which is absurd in my mind. But maybe I'm wrong. Does he have any chance against a prime Louis according to anyone here

I feel that Butterbean would be a dangerous opponent who would have a very good chance of beating prime Joe Louis in a competitive eating contest.

Butterbean wouldn’t even have chance against Joe Louis from 1951.

It seems a fat, out of shape, left hooking mauler knocked Louis down .Maybe a fat ,out of shape ,right handed banger could replicate that feat? God help him when Joe got up though!

Despite being much larger in size, Primo Carnera took a tremendous beating when fighting Joe Louis. Carnera was a far better fighter than Butterbean. As a result, I feel that Louis would absolutely ruin Butterbean.

Honestly, Butterbean was really just a club fighter.

Even Galento was atleast in the mix with contenders. Butterbean got stopped by a guy with only one other known win.

It would be brutal. A big guy like Butterbean carries a lot of blood around with him. He would leave half of it splattered around the ring.

Louis in one or two rounds. Butterbean takes a beating before being KTFO.

This is undeniably true, but I would add one caveat.Carnera couldn't punch half his weight, whatever Butterbean might have been ,and granted it wasn't much, he could hit!

Too much is made of Butterbeans loss to 1-1-7 Mitchell Rose in my view. That was a green and pre-prime Butterbean. Louis had a similar loss to Max Schmeling when he was pre-prime too. Both came back better fighters after it.

Prime Butterbean of say the Johnny Knoxville fight was an awesome punching force. His blend of power, aggression and obesity makes him a tough ask for anyone in my view let alone someone with chin issues such as Louis. Louis was stopped twice in 60+ fights and both times by white fighters and no one was whiter than Butterbean.

Of course Louis had decent power himself and can’t be discounted either but when did he ever face a 300 pound specimen like Esch? Athletes just didn’t come in that type of package back then pre- PEDs, modern science and Kentucky Fried Chicken.

I think the fight should be held in Big 5 Sporting Goods to even things up.

Butterbean was one of the hungriest fighters ever to lace up boxing gloves. He should be in anyones ATG List when it comes to hunger and desire.

I don't think Mitchell Rose is an equivalent to Max Schmeling
