I still think Joyce is deceptively strong and efficient. He is slow, he gets caught too much, but he has a hell of a chin.

He ate big shots from Stiverne, but power is the last thing to go in a fighter right? Stiverne put all his 273 lb frame into his shots in Miller'esque fashion and Joyce just smiled back.

Joyce is BIG, 6 ft 6, athletic, muscly... he is a big unit.

Stiverne should have been out within 3 rounds, but his toughness and stupidity kept him in there, as well as his team not throwing in the towel lol.

Joyce made short work of Stiverne, Stiverne just showed tremednous grit to stay in there really, don't sleep on Joyce, he can break into the top 10 no problem, the top 5 will break him down though.

Joyce is a serious threat to anyone not in the top 5

Joyce definitely has power, maybe not explosive KO power.... but it stops opponents pretty early... Stiverne was seriously hurt all throughout... he was just surviving on sheer will and stupidity.

Fight should have been over in 3-4 rounds.

He's an odd one. My hopes for him have dipped a bit but he's evidently effective to some sort of degree. How that'll fare against the better fighter in the division is anyone's guess. He's remarkably slow but has previously shown to have accuracy regardless of that. His power appears to be decent, his defense less so.

Having a hard time making a case for him against the top fellas. I do think he's going to be a lot of fun to watch when he steps up though

Yeah he might look slow, stiff, and cumbersome but he's obviously doing something right to have achieved all he did in the amateurs and taken the scalps of as many of the world's elite SHW amateurs as he did, a bunch of whom have also turned over and are currently undefeated and are held in high regard. And he dealt with Lewison and Bacurin more impressively than Whyte did even though he fought the former on his pro debut and the later in his 4th pro fight. He's a handful and if you can't hurt him or keep him off of you you've got big problems.

Negatives - Slow as erosion, no real defence I can see. Lack of explosiveness

Positives - Huge unit, stamina of a long distance runner, heavy thudding hands, good chin.

Conclusion - eats fringe contenders for breakfast, but horribly exposed against elites.

His only real use is as a sparring partner for Tyson Fury to simulate the size of Joshua. That's it.

There haven't been a too many giant mummies in heavyweight history. The other notable one is Old George Foreman, whom it is unlikely that Joyce will out-acheive because I don't see a fighter as weak as Moorer being on top and served to Joyce.

He’s slow and predictable with decent power and decent chin but against anyone with good hand speed and skill he’s going to be embarrassed

There's no doubt he's somewhat heavy handed, however, because he's slow, the opponent sees the punches coming, which lessens their impact. Plus, he couldn't miss Stiverne, I'd love to see the punch stats but the number of flush shots he landed was ridiculous, Stiverne had literally no defence.

I’ve been wondering, why has Joyce put on so much weight since switching from hayemaker stable to Big bear? Is it a deliberate thing? Or the change in training. It looks to be mostly fat, don’t see how this benefits him. He was slow enough as it was

I don't get people who think that the guys in the top 10 are so skilled, and strong, and have such stamina and defence that a massive hard hitting, good punch selection, in shape heavyweight like Joe Joyce can't be right in the mix. A lot of these guys have been in a lot of wars and have a lot of mileage on them.. Joyce is 50/50 against most of the top 10 imo..

Most of the top ten at the moment is pretty garbagey. Fighters like Breazeale and Kownacki aren't any better than Joyce, and Whyte might not actually be that better if their respective performances against Lewison tell us anything. Only Joshua and Fury are significantly better than him to the point where I'd comfortably bet money on them. Ortiz and Povetkin are at the point where they could lose to a limited but game fighter like Joyce, and Parker might find himself overwhelmed by the constant workrate. Miller I think loses to Joyce due to stylistic issues, and Wilder could well lose to him as well; depends how well Joyce can take a punch in the pros.

Mobile boxers who can pop in and out will cause Joyce problems, but until Usyk moves up there aren't that many to pick from.
