Hmm.... Have you seen any more of his fights? 13-0 (10KO) run is pretty impressive even if they've all bean cans. Hoping it was just an unflattering fight caught and posted on tape.

I only briefly saw the clip as I was frozen and just getting off work. On the red line now, I'll watch it again when I get to Alewife. And ya, hopefully enough to pierce the nip, but this is Chris "Burger King" Arreola, that's I pretty big(but soft) nip to pierce.

Maybe there actually is hope, both @IntentionalButt and @CST80 pkicked Augustin on points. Alright starting to feel much better about this.

I have to pick Arreola here. Hey, I'd love for Jean-Pierre Augustin to prove me wrong and send Chris back to his Budweisers and Barbecue - but I would be surprised if that happens.

    • Augustin hasn't fought in a year. Maybe he's been active in some camps - I don't know - but he hasn't stepped into the ring in anger for awhile. I don't think he's ever fought more than 4 rounds.
    • I've watched his 2nd fight against Solomon Maye on YT (the first was a draw, btw). JPA doesn't seem to be a high work-rate guy and while he outboxed Maye (3-1 on rounds, IMO) - he didn't get Maye out of there. And Maye was at least 40 when he fought him.
    • All of Augustin's opponents possess at least two of the following traits: fat, old, small. Several possessed all three.
What's going on here? Well here's what I think.

Arreola's team cherry-picked Augustin thinking they could pass off his relatively-young age and undefeated record as posing a viable threat. AFAIK, there isn't a whiff of money behind Jean-Pierre Augustin (his ties to Vinny Paz were cut a couple years ago - which could have opened doors with promoters) - so he probably has little choice other than to take the money and get starched.

The best possible fight for Jean-Pierre Augustin, IMO, would have been one of these:

    • A fight against Joe Cusumano (who can hit - but has limited skills - and no semblance of speed/slickness). Joe is based out of Virginia but he has a contract with the folks at Twin River Casino/CES Boxing in Providence, RI. JPA's New England ties would really help promote that fight.
    • A fight against Niall Kennedy for the NE belt. I think Niall outclasses JP-A, but JP-A would fare better than a couple of guys Kennedy has defended that belt against (e.g. Aaron Chavers).

I actually paid money to watch Jean-Pierre Augustin box...Danny Phippen.

I've had farts that lasted longer than that fight did.

Kinda agree with this post. Arreola is really looking to boost his recent resume with this fight. An unbeaten guy with a good KO ratio that is obviously fighting poor opposition. BUT in the last 4 years Arreola looks horrible and he can easily turn out as one of those guys that are part of the poor opposition. If Arreola shows out of shape and underestimate Augustin, this will be the surprise of the night.

Cristobal Arreola 2.0 is young, hungry, primed and motivated. There is only one possible outcome for this match, excruciating pain for the Haitian.

    Looking swift and slim here

After quickly watching 2 fights of Augustin's (the Maye rematch and some large giant slob) at work, am I off for thinking that the declined, apparition of Arreola actually has a chance here? I mean, I know Arreola is well beyond washed up, but this guy doesn't look good at all.

Augustine looked like an old school USA Tuesday Night Boxing tomato can. I never thought I'd see another Arreola win. Unfortunately, this now ensures I'll get to see another loss. Probably a huge, devastating KO loss. I could see him getting fed to Usyk.
