Duran was better on the both the inside and outside. Chavez would not win.

Chavez was a master going to the body … But Duran on he inside was even better. Pea schooled Chavez there … that wouldn't happen with Duran

Duran was a bit better than Chavez at any range and that's saying something.

I've never seen Duran-Chavez as a particularly close fight.

And it's not because I dont think highly of JCC, because I certainly do. But his style more less plays into Duran's hands.

I think you'd be looking at a slightly more competitive version of Duran-Palomino.

Chavez would get his ass kicked.

Yeah Duran in his pomp was as good as it gets.

Chavez is one of the best fighters I've seen but against a guy who was naturally larger, faster, hit harder, had as good a chin and more talented....yeah he'd get beaten down. No stoppage but Chavez relied on being the better man inside and he wouldn't be in this matchup. Duran trumps him in virtually every aspect and would work him over for a clear UD. There's a reason Duran was still competitive at 160 and Chavez's ceiling was at 147, it's called levels and Duran was simply a higher level of fighter.

I'm just not sure how Chavez would win this type of fight against Duran. Even at this best range, inside, I'd still favor Duran. Generally in phone booth exclusive type of fights... Assuming power is relatively equal (it's not, Duran has more power to me, but not decisively so), the biggest factors are chin, workrate, and counterpunching ability. Chin, Chavez has a slight advantage. Put it this way, I think Duran has more of a power advantage than Chavez has a chin advantage. Counterpunching... not all that close really. Better defensively inside, again not all that close. I simply believe that no matter at what range this fight is fought, and the style that Chavez typically fought at, simply favors Duran in most every area.

Styles make this fight, Duran KO's a man his size who comes at him. Chavez stays on the stool for round 9

Not a good matchup for JC Superstar, this one. Take everything that Chavez was brilliant at, add an extra 5% or so to them, and you've roughly got Duran. Then consider that he's a pinch bigger naturally than Chavez, too, and a better defensive fighter and counter-puncher when he needs to be...I just can't see how Chavez wins.

Someone above suggested that this one might have had shades of Duran-Palomino about it, and I think that's a decent suggestion. On that form, I'd take Duran to stop Chavez late on, especially if it was a fifteen rounder.

I have no problem with anyone picking Duran, and he will rightly be the favorite (although I am betting the underdog)....but do you really see Chávez quitting on his stool??? Lol...if any one says no mas...well I just can’t remember who that was???
