Great match up this. Does Ike have what it takes deep down? We would certainly find out i think. On a side note for discussion purposes how does Ike's two notable wins (about all he had for obvious reasons) compare to Vitali's best two wins?
Ike had almost the same reach as Vitali despite being like 4 inches shorter. Both had iron for a chin. Did we ever get to see the finished product with Ike? . Ike was still only 25 or 26 when we last saw him fight. Who you got OP?
I am in all honesty still deciding. I think i will watch some Ike again on the weekend. It's a top match imo.
perhaps its wise this never happened, as its obious he was better than fat sam peter....Ike did seem to possess world class ability but itswas a bit early to tell for sure.
Ike's the great unknown quantity of the era. Maybe he could've beaten all of them. Sad we never got to find out.
I'm picking Vitali but we really don't know how good Ibeabuchi really was. He looked the goods against Tua and Byrd of course but against a 6"7 guy who could really box like Vitali we don't have a real point of reference. We know Ikes chin was granite and power was devastating but so was Peters and Vitali destroyed him but I'm comfortable in saying that Ike was better than Peter. A good match up but I have to go with the known quantity. Vitali UD.
I saw Ike on practically a daily basis while he was training in Dallas. He would have beaten the robotic Vitali
Huh... Master Boxer ? What a lean back one two fighter with zero inside game ? Granted, with his height there is no reason to go close but at least he should have a inside fighting arsenal but he did not as evidenced against Lewis. They have a common opponent, one quit , the other made him drool........ Sam Peter was a C level wide swinger who went life and death with a fat MIddle, was bounced around by featherfisted McCline and his claim to fame is giving WK a panic attack but otherwise that guy is unskilled as they come................whats his best win, Glass Chinned One Hit Wonder Oleg ? Plus he was shot to pieces when VK faced him........what note worthy wins did Peter have after VK ? None. Fact: both times VK faced top shelf opponents he lost........Sanders was and never will be a world class operator. The key to beat the K brothers is jump on them and make them fight on instinct not sitting back pot shotting or jab and grabbing..........Ike was on the verge of being a World Class Operator, while certified crazy. he certainly would bring the fight to VK Lennox Lewis style and the results would be similar. Ike's wins over undefeated Byrd and Tua shid all over VK's resume who has nothing but washed up, shot. old or never were fillers in it. As mentioned above, his best "wins" are a quit job and TKO 6.
Agreed ,this is unknown. But Ike would bring more to the table against Vitali than he ever saw. And if Tua can't shake Ike, Vitali won't. Wouldn't surprise me to see Vitali fold late in a 12 rounder
I never called Vitali a master boxer because he wasn’t, they’re your words not mine thank you. I said he could really box which he could utilising his physical attributes, namely his height, reach, strength and awkwardness. Ike never faced someone like that. Tua and Byrd sure as hell don’t compare physically or as fighters really (yeah I get that Byrd has that flukey victory over Vitali but minus the shoulder injury he doesn’t win that fight and everyone knows it). As I said Ike was a “what if” and he was untested against a genuine super heavyweight. He might’ve whipped Vitali but then again he might have struggled with his sheer size (as everyone he fought did to an extent). Hence I’m sticking with the safe pick of Klitschko via UD.
Reach can be a bit misunderstood in boxing. Long fingers and broad shoulders really do not count for striking distance in boxing, but they do in the traditional way reach is measured. In Vitali's case he had long arms, but narrower shoulders. Vitali had a 29.5" reach the way HBO defines it, from the pit of the arm to the fist. Lennox Lewis, a fighter with a listed reach 84" measured out 29" on HBO's more accurate version of reach which was slightly shorter than Vitali's. The shorter the fighter, the less range they have to strike upward to the head area. Okay, who wins? This would be a very good fight. Vitlai was the better boxer and mover and had the chin to absorb a bomb or two if needed. Ike would have an issue getting past his jab ( Tua had none, Byrd none to worry about ) and would likely take a points decision.
