Is Maidana the most underrated boxer of recent times?

He is rated fine.

 

The shot from Mosley was a hook. The shot from Maidana in round 3 of the rematch was a straight left that knocked a tooth out. The gloves saved Floyd.

 

Maidana its a good brawler and a good action fighter but i think that his countrymans like Sergio Martinez and Brian castaño are more underrated if we talk about skills....

 

Saying that Golovkin struggled a great deal with Jacobs (when many even scored it against him) is 'absurd'? Yeah, no, you're the one holding a fringe opinion there, pal.

 

Except you did not say “struggled”. “Life and death” to describe that fight is absurd. “Struggled” to find after round 6 and a KD makes sense.

 

Common parlance. More than a few people thought it could be scored for Jacobs. In contrast with the prevailing opinion beforehand that Jacobs would easily be KTFO (and it ending up being arguably the most difficult night of Golovkin's entire career outside Canelo I & II and fighting Kassim Ouma with the flu), that is enough to warrant that particular turn of phrase IMO.

 

Chop Chop Corley rocked Mayweather badly as well.
Zab Judah legitimately put him down briefly, but the ref didn't score it.

 

Maidana out-of-the-box = a little overrated
Maidana 2.0 under Grandpa Roberto = much improved, underrated by some and overrated by others.

 

He is not under rated but he is OVER WEIGHT now

 

I forgot about that Chop Chop punch. I gotta rewatch that. It was a good shot. However that Judah shot wasn't nothing. He wasn't in no trouble from that.

 

Tit for tat would be more appropriate or applicable. Life or death would be imo Wilder/Ortiz. That latter could have gone either way had one guy not gotten up.

 

Oh I agree that the Judah shot was nothing in terms of power. It was a clever counter shot that just knocked him of balance, but he did touch down though and was the only KD of his career (albeit a flash knockdown)
The Chop Chop punch hurt him. I think there were a couple within a few seconds. I remember Floyd asked after the Shane Moseley fight if that was the worst he was hurt in his career and he said something like "no, Chop Chop caught me with a good shot" or words to that effect. Not sure whether this was just him trying to play down how much Moseley hurt him, but he certainly acknowledged and remembered that Chop Chop moment.

 

Yeah, Chop Chop was working him and was in it to win it. I rewatched it and it was a really good fight.

 

Yeah I guess. Still don't think using that descriptive for Golovkin vs. Jacobs is absurd.

I think rather than deep-diving on the semantics we can just chalk this up to a case of the person that said that being a pretty clear hater with a transparent agenda.
