He's absolutely nothing like Foreman. AJ is a highly cautious at all times, defence-first fighter. In that sense, he's not entertaining at all. If he had an exciting style, his level of fame would be up there with the likes of Lebron, Messi etc. He's still relatively an unknown character out of the UK.
No , he was slow of hand, why do you think Ali called him the Mummy. However he cut the Ring off very effectively ,ramrod jab, packed a absolute dynamite punch and had pretty much a granite chin plus wanted to sincerely hurt you in the Ring. AJ will never go at his foe as Foreman did, he aint got the chin or better explained, he lacks confidence in his chin to fight like a wrecking ball.
Agreed, nothing like Foreman but he's hardly unentertaining in the ring - what fights have you been watching? He has 21 KOs from 22 fights - hardly the hallmark of a defence first fighter. He's become more cautious of late sure but he's hardly 'highly cautious'. In fact, his fights with Wlad and Whyte were very entertaining, especially the former. And AJ is as good a finisher as anyone in the fight game today. Look at how he dismantled Povetkin when he staggered him in the 7th round. What has happened with AJ is that he is learning on the job and becoming a better fighter as he's gone up in levels. He's more patient, thinks more, sets traps and is starting to look more like a boxer-puncher rather than just a KO artist. However, he's not gonna turn into a heavyweight Mayweather anytime soon. When he hurts you, you are done for and if Miller insists on continually coming forward I think you're gonna see a spectacular finish from AJ on June 1st.
You know, I can't speak for everyone so let me rephrase it and say "I don't find him entertaining". His presence is good for the sport of boxing. A high KO ratio doesn't always translate into excitement, not for me anyways. Valuev was a big KO artist in his day, who actually found him antertaining? AJ's just too big and strong to cope with. Naturally most of his opponents can't cope with his power and break down at some point. That's very likely what's gonna happen with Miller as well. He's a defense first fighter. He doesn't trust his chin so he always expects the first move from his opponent and looking to counter. Even though he scores knock outs, he doesn't go out there to seek and destroy. From that point of view he's not "the baddest man on the planet" by any means. This is what I think about him. I don't have a problem with people who find him entertaining. I just find his style boring.
He just said he tried some stuff Foreman did in fights like posting his arms to manipulate another fighters movement instead of using the jab all the time, AJ stated that he tries this stuff in sparring.
Fair enough, although I can't really agree. AJ only started to become more cautious from the Parker fight onwards, and to be fair that remains the only fight you could reasonably say he fought as a 'safety first' fighter. Before that. he definitely was more of a 'seek and destroy' fighter. The 'baddest man on the planet' tag has only really been deserved by a handful of fighters in history. Foreman was it certainly in his first incarnation, as was Liston and Mike Tyson. I wouldn't say that anyone from this era can legitimately wear that tag.
Yeah Foreman's understanding of head control to control the position of his opponent was superb, that matador like move he uses Lomachenko also does. Foreman wasn't the prettiest fighter to watch but there was definitely technique and thought behind a lot of what he did.
AJ not exciting? He was invovled in the most entertaining HW fight in decades against Wlad. AJs fights against Whyte and Povetkin were also entertaining.
As I said earlier, entertainment is a subjective concept. One may find Mayweather super exciting and someone else may find him super boring. This is my personal opinion about AJ. I'm not trying to convince anyone. Regarding AJ vs Wlad. It was indeed an exciting fight. It's about clash of styles. Lara vs Hurd was an exciting fight, doesn't change the fact that Lara is otherwise extremely boring. Ward vs Kovalev I was exciting while Ward is usually quite boring. The list goes on.
But AJ stands in front of his opponents throwing poweer punches, what more does have to do? Parker just spoiled in every round using a fas, sharp counter jab, AJ was coming forwards the whole time and he throws more punches than Wilder, he has also promised to go straight for the KO v Fury, he doesn`t want another jabbing match kinda like DLH after his boring chess match v Whitaker, he went on to bully Camacho around the ring.
