If Mikey would win, it might very well be the best win since Leonard-Hagler. Giving up four inches to a world class WW is a huge challenge, especially for someone who has never fought in the divison before.
This is what I was thinking. Spence is a very skilled boxer as well. One of the better body punchers in the game too. While Mikey is the better boxer, it's not as if Spence is some crude slugger,
I think Mikey's limit would be up to 140. He is technically very proficient, but he doesn't have any advantages here. I think there are about even technically and on speed, but he's deficient on height, reach, and power. He might even slow down due to adding muscle. He's not going to outbox Spence from the outside, and he's not going to over power Spence on the inside. I think he does well and maybe frustrates Spence for the first four rounds and eventually slows down and gets stopped.
We will see I haven’t seen mikey at 147 yet. Like I said earlier, if it were porter, Thurman, or Danny g I’d favor mikey. If he fought 1 of those dudes first I’d have a better feel to make a pick. Since in is unknown what mikey can do at 147, I will take Spence.
People talking like it would be Upset of the Year are crazy hype machiners but I am picking Spence. Probably goes the distance.
Mikey is the best opponent Spence been in.Spence ply adv is height and reach but he is too robotic for MG.Spence can bully guys who no power to back him up.Mikey will get this guy because Spence reckons he is the more powerful boxer but gets tagged for being overconfident.
I don't see anybody saying all Spence has is size. I see even the people picking Mikey have a ton of respect for Spence, and will continue to regardless of outcome. The people picking Mikey are doing so because he looks like the best technician in the game today. No shame in losing to that guy.
This is why Mikey should get respect, just for being a lightweight and having the plums to do what none of the top welters will.
