Nah, I remember the polls around that time and how pissed everyone still is about the judges decision for Ward. Most is the right word. You are really going to absurd lengths to justify your Ward love or Kovalev hate if you think that bending over after being repeatedly punched in the nuts is more DQ worthy than punching a guy repeatedly in the nuts. From what I remember of the second fight, Kovalev was a point up and swept the early rounds, but Andre Ward was having the better of things in the middle rounds. Nobody loses rounds intentionally. Kovalev clearly thought that he'd been robbed in the previous fight do to a perceived inactivity and wanted to be busier this time around so was overwhelming Ward with volume. He might have been gassing at the end from the extra output or from the body shots Ward was digging into his gut. But some of those strayed low and were definitely foul, which led to the ending we saw. I'd say that it was marred by Ward and the ref together since there is blame enough for both. And I can't agree with you that Ward earned a victory when he was down on the cards and should have been DQ'd for low blows. I will agree with you that Mayweather, Loma, Usyk, and Crawford never have fought or beat a guy that was a bad stylistic match up for them. Regarding Ward going up one division, that's not impressive to me, not when guys typically move up 4 or 5. Every guy who's won fighter of the decade since the 1930s has moved up 4 or more: Armstrong, Robinson, Duran, Leonard, Roy Jones/Whitaker, Pacquiao. Ward's lackluster showing against Kovalev showed that he could still be competitive if not dominant at 175 but that was his ceiling, sort of like Lomachenko's ceiling appears to be 135.
Exactly who has Ward beaten who was a bad match-up for him? Dawson who was drained to a zombie? Or Sakio Bika? Alexander Brand?
The fact that no one is even mentioning Canelo astounds me. Lara,Cotto,Trout, and GGG are a great resume in themselves. maybe those fights were close but he still deserves the spot over someone like Hopkins who is 5-3-1-1 this decade with his last fight in 2016
Lol at people mentioning GGG. It’ll be either Ward or Canelo, they’ll probably give it to Floyd though.
He definitely deserves it but I'm suprised to see Ward get as many votes as he did I always felt he didn't seem to get much respect on this forum
Joshua and Golovkin should replace both of the Hopkins entries. Hopkins has not done anything near enough, this decade, to warrant a place.
Ward or Canelo...but I'm not great with time so I don't know what may have happened in 2012 relative to 2008, but based on my gut I'd go with one of those two.
Surely replace one of your picks with Lomachenko mate; perhaps Bernard Hopkins since you've included him twice?
Hopkins twice but no mention of Mikey Garcia? Ward's my favorite fighter of the last 20 years so I went with him, I mean it could go so many different ways based on a number of different things so I just went with my favorite. Mikey Garcia should have been on the list.
