I love Golovkin and will always be a huge fan of him and his fights. I must admit I can't help but feel a little disappointed that instead of going out with a bang he appears to be content to go out with a whimper after 'losing' to Clenelo. Then again he is 37 now and I guess I'd prefer it if he were to announce his retirement next week than continue fighting and risk getting knocked out by some contender he probably would have stretched not that long ago.

Suck that fighters have to get old.

Nonsense about Ward; that fight was never going to happen because of where both men were at in there careers. Golovkin was arcing upward and being the undisputed champ didn’t seem impossible. Andre was in a stale period after lawsuits and surgery and growing out of 168. Like Leonard and Pryor, it would’ve been a dream fight for the fans with two great fighters who were close in weight but the reality and logistics prevented it. None of the four fighters ducked each other.
Golovkin is in a grayish area where we will never know just how great he might’ve been (or even exposed). 160 in his prime was fairly weak and no other belt holders would go near him. Sturm, Martinez, Cotto and then even Clenelo paid him step aside money and ultimately dumped his belt rather than fight a prime Golovkin. In some ways he’s similar to Valero in that he was a gym legend and simply beat down any and all challengers, but obviously GGG went further in his career. There is no record of him ever having been hurt or down in his career, either as an amateur or pro, but unfortunately he never had a rival to push him. By the time Clenelo sacked up to fight him GGG was past his prime and even then the large majority thought Gennady got screwed with a draw.

Ward offered to fight Golovkin in 2016 at 168.

Golovkin and his team said no. Facts.

As a pro I find this totally acceptable, BJS didn't want to know for ages, BJS or 40,000,000 in 2 fights with Canelo, maybe more. I know what path you me and every other person with a brain would take

    1. Sure, I get it. But Billy Joe isn't even a real PPV fighter over here in the UK. I can't blame a man for wanting to take care of his family with huge Canelo fights.

    2. I think he (and everyone) was shocked at just how resistant and tough Canelo really is. But I think the issue here was styles - if Golovkin unloads on Canelo he misses 9 shots out of 10. I don't think GGG was physically afraid, just outmatched for slickness

It makes me laugh in hypotheticals when people say ""X" would knock Golovkin out".

Knock him out? This guy has never been hurt in his life! Never been down or even genuinely staggered in 400 fights as amateur and pro.

There was one moment v Canelo, where it look like a short and well-timed counter staggered him a few inches, but the replay showed he just over-balanced from throwing his own shot. This is an absurd level of toughness when we're getting down to this level to find a sign of being human.

BUT, he does have stylistic weaknesses. An athletic Jacobs-type mover-fighter (but tougher than Jacobs himself) causes his nightmares in my opinion. Middleweight Roy Jones get away with a points victory. Maybe a handful of others in the history of the sport too.

But that this is the level we have to go to find people who we think might beat him really shows just how good he is. Fanboys or no fanboys.

His 'official' record has a very good win in Jacobs and is then littered with decent/solid wins, with a draw and L against a P4P fighter. It isn't spectacular. If you scored at least one Canelo fight to him (I had both), then his resume is definitely good but not spectacular and still a lacking compared to greats.

Yes, resume dissection requires context but if we strip the context we have what we have.

Please can we end the GGG\Ward stuff too, it's so boring. Both guys would fight each other, both their teams had reservations about it. Ward wins at 168. That does not make GGG any less excellent.

    Thank u, next

He could have fought BJS for the undisputed Middleweight championship but he chose to rematch Canelo instead, for the money not for legacy.

So that would definitely mean you also hate Floyd, Pac, Ward, Wilder and Canelo who all seem to have just as, or even more rabid fans.
