against pac, broner actually thought his defense was winning him the fight, and his cornermen kept reinforcing that delusion between rds. i suspect that group of knuckleheads studied the floyd-pac fight and thought they could pull off the same plan, and his corner was too chicken **** to tell him the truth during the fight.
mikey was dropping his hands to taunt him while chasing him around the ring like he was trying to catch a lamb, it was humiliating given the schooling he was getting.
i agree, its more embarrassing to get beat by a middle age senator with the flu, but i dont think it was happening the same way in his head.

I think all that upper body strength training will hurt him unless what he’s trying to do is throw a combo and hold.

This fight has to do with speed. At this level speed means everything. Hearns beat Duran with speed more than anything else. If Garcia can match Spence speed, he can win.

 

i think it will be a matter of how well mikey can defend at mid range. mikey likes to catch opponents through holes in defense between punches. he also likes to catch you with that third punch, the one nobody else has thrown at you after you slipped the first 2. thats one of the things that starts to destroy opponents game plans, they get stuck trying to defend from punches theyve never had to defend from before.
to be successful he needs to be in range for counters in exchanges, and he wont last long if hes catching damage at every exchange.
his strategy should consist of controlling distance by dictating when and where the trading takes place, and then use the ring between ambushes. he will establish a hard jab and 1-2s early, so he can use feints successfully, to set spence up or freeze his advance for a split second. he needs to go to the body anytime spence gets inside, he needs to hurt spence to the body enough that he doesnt automatically feel thats the best place for him, make his comfort zone uncomfortable.
mikey needs to have the performance of his life.

 

By the way, Spence is the IBF champion, and this is not a unification fight, so the second-day weigh-ins should be in effect.

Spence is going to win this fight clearly - I was never really sold on Garcia's chances here.

 

Good analysis, I agree with everything he said specially the fact that Mikey trains relaxed and fights relaxed. I don’t know if he will be able to keep up with Spence’s skilled consistent pressure.
