How do you see this fight going down? I got walcott by k.o. late rounds with a huge left hook, schmeling could take a punch a bit better walcott but Joe had better defence to make up for it.

Are we talking prime for prime?

If so I think that Schmeling's educated pressure, and more offensively orientated style, would see him get the decision.

If we are talking about when the fight could have actually been made, then it would be an easy win for Schmeling before the war, and an easy win for Walcott after.

I take Walcott by late KO, Schmeling was a fine technician in his prime but he wasn't Ezzard Charles.

I feel as if Walcott vs Schmeling would be a thrilling 3 fight series

I think Schmeling gets way overrated due to his win over the overrated Louis...

Walcott too cute defensively, too strong, too much pop to lose here.

    Walcott makes him look bad.

Well it certainly beats Walcott's two losses to an older version of the overrated Louis!

We all know the first Louis win was a robbery, and also you should know as well as anyone else that boxing math doesn't work.

Schmeling dissected and whipped Louis over the course of the whole first fight... Louis blitzkrieged a terrified faded Schmeling in the rematch.

If Louis won the first fight, noone would ever mention Schmeling in these discussions. He wouldn't be held up nearly as high, but he beat Louis, so he must be great, right?

Is it possible Louis is overrated and simply got beat by a mediocre fighter? Not to you, because you have to keep Louis where you want him, and to do that you have to adjust your idea of other fighters...

Louis is 1-1 against both, or should be, so what?

Schmeling defeated 4 hall of fame fighters. Louis, Sharkey, Stribling, Walker. He ko’d 3 of them.
Schmeling was also robbed of his title against Sharkey so who knows how long his first run would of been.
Schmeling was also denied his rightful chance in attempt to reclaim his title against Braddock. (A fight he likely wins)
Schmeling is underrated if anything. Now that doesn’t mean I think he would compete against big heavies the majority of his bouts were at light heavy. He was not particularly big, but he was a fine fighter. He beat Uzcudon on a 7 fight win streak in 1929. (Uzcudon ko’d Wills and beat Baer over 20 rounds) He ko’d number 1 contender Steve Hamas ending his career in the process. He popped the balloon of Walter Neausel who was a hot name when they fought.
And that win against Louis - he was the only man to defeat Louis in a 15 year, very active run for the Brown Bomber.
To suggest either man is overrated is laughable.

    No we don't.

In order to say that it was a robbery, you would need to either score the fight yourself, or have a much higher degree of consensus among ringside observers.

It was nothing more than a controversial decision, and against a very far past it Louis.
Yes but he did beat Louis, and nobody repeated the trick for another fifteen years!

He did to a slightly green but physical prime Louis, what Walcott could not do to a shot version!
Let's assume that Schmeling was a mediocre fighter.

Given the number of contenders that Louis beat over the next decade, you would have expected another mediocre fighter to get to him at some point.
Leon Spinks is 1-1 against Muhammad Ali, does that make him as good as Joe Frazier?

Walcott is very capable of winning, but I think Schmeling would win most of the time. Maybe 2 out of 3, 3 out of 5 or something.
