Golovkin. Always 100% prepared. Can fight inside and at range. Has a proven track record at 160. Never lost to Dave Tiberi.
It's not as simple as that though is it. The version of James who fought Tiberi could never have beaten Nunn and McCallum etc. You have to take into account that James was very young back then, and he had a hectic schedule where he fought every 2 months. We've seen this happen with many other fighters over the years. We don't know how GG would have done with that schedule. If you're looking a fantasy fight, you really need to assume that both guys would have been fully fit, fighting to their full capabilities. Take a look at one of my favourite fighters - Billy Joe Saunders. Last year, he looked sharp and focused, and he put in a fantastic display against David Lemiuex. He was brilliant that night. Now consider his performance against the lowly Artur Akavov. It was like watching 2 different fighters.
although most of us make the sensible decision of picking the bona fide elite over the guy who cannot yet beat an elite, just remember this - 3G will improve to elite level by kocking out elites soon. You heard it from me first. AND THE U WILL NEED TO START this POLL AGAIN! AND THE ANSWER WITH NEW IMPROVED 3G WILL BE DIFFERENT ENTIRELY!!! one day the answer to this poll will be reversed to be 3G, just wait and see , becos hes not finished yet!
When u see 3G knocking out elites left right and centre this year and next, then you people will have no choice but to reverse your decision, as will I. But for now I am ok with almost all of you sensibly picking Toney. You just lack my faith in what will be.
Soft? You're joking. If it was James at his best, GG has never fought anybody on that level. The closest thing is Canelo, which were 2 very close fights.
Yes, you definitely couldn't pick him with any certainty. You never knew which version of him you were going to see.
Come on now. No, he never lost to a guy like Tiberi, but on the other hand, he's never beaten a McCallum, Reggie or a Nunn. He also never fought world class opposition every 2 months, and he's struggled with the 2 best fighters he's faced. This would have been a very tough fight for him.
Toney by UD assuming he comes in shape. There's always a chance he comes in out of shape and unfocused and loses though.
but u guys are discounting teh fact that 3G is not finished and may yet become even greater, an elite killer or move to win title in other divisions like toney. Come 2020 when 3G has won SMW, LHW and CW titles like Toney, will you all look very silly for picking toney? you see? this will be stark contrast to 3Gs best win being a simple contender in jacobs. You should always wait to end of career before u judge a guy.
No it'd be a tough fight for both men, I cant see GGG being stopped but I also can't see him winning against a prime Toney, the man was brilliant imo.
