When I am sparring I seem to have a mental block when throwing my punch I seem to hesitate, can someone please advise me on overcoming this. Thank you
This should be in the training session. PM me if you want, I can probably help. a "block" didn't just pop up in your head one day for no reason and make you gunshy or unable to pull the trigger on your punches, it's there because an instance or circumstance put it there. Figure that out, that's #1 thing you gotta do to overcome this. Before sparring try visualizing how a spar will go, different scenarios, and when you will most need to pull the trigger and uncork. Visualizing goes a long way. Or just become too ignorant and arrogant to even acknowledge you ever had this issue and soldier on like nothing happened. Ignorance is bliss.
Try sparring light with a friend or gym buddy just to work on timing, defense, and movement until you're confident enough in your skills to take it up a notch?
Thanks for replying. I've been training for about 14 months, sparring maybe twice a month but mainly bag work and circuit training. It's just a mental block I want to throw the punch but hesitate for that split second.
determine a trigger for your punch and stick with it till its done reflexively. for example, if you want to come over the top of his jab, fire the punch when you first start to see his shoulder c'ock to throw the jab. if its the jab youre having a hard time throwing, throw it when you feel him lift his lead foot to move forward. if youre only throwing when you see the opening itself, and still cant get them off in time, then you are shot, hang em up.
