Let's make no bones about this, this obsession with fighters "numbers" is emerging as a real cancer to the discussion of the sport, at least in terms of the British scene. I for one will be relentless in countering, trolling and generally taking the **** out of the clowns who advance it ahead of anything else.

I've followed boxing to a greater or lesser degree for 25 years and have posted on forums for over 10. It's a new, odd development and IMO symptomatic of the large casual football base Hearn has attracted who know little about the technical nuances so just parrot his financial utterings in back and forths on twitter. That's where the nucleus of all this started IMO.

Look at the difference between the General board and here. The Yanks hardly ever talk about "muh numbers" at length. On here, before a fight has even finished, some clown will be talking about what they "think" the gates/PPV/bargaining power is for X or Y fighter is now. The best is when some forklift driver Dave Carling drinker opines on what he thinks a fighter should be getting paid, down to the last few pence.

It's ONLY started since Hearn has become a staple on "social media" talking about finances non-stop. He's an accountant, or at least Barry is so I get that but the way this has percolated down to the "fans" is pathetic. I can't think of a single other sport where a participant's net worth, earning power or anything else related to how much they make is prioritised by a sizeable percentage of the fans over how ermm you know, how good they are at their chosen sport.

    Too many governing bodies
    Too many promoters
    Too many TV Channels/streaming services

Its bollocks right now for us fans.

They (sky) could go with Macklin & MTK.
Maybe there's potential controversy down the line with Mtk which sky may feel like they wouldnt want to use them as their sole promoters.
Another option would be to put it out to two promoters, such as Steve Wood and Steve Goodwin. Both promoters have huge stables. Probably the biggest two in u.k atm. Also they are both known as good, honest men.

Can't see Sky terminating anytime soon , Matchroom supply alot more content than just boxing to them which they wouldn't want to jeopardise imo.

Who knows maybe in a year or 2 time Eddie may well want that to happen so that he can concentrate on DAZN if it launches over here too.

I agree with your post. I've just saw a thread a few underneath this titled: "Fury Whyte Will Do Huge Numbers". The person that made that thread is just adding to the "cancer to the discussion of the sport" would you agree?

Matchroom not involved in rugby league yet.

But yeah don't get it twisted. Darts does hot ratings on sky. It's a major sport for them.

The prospect of the top heavy weights all fighting it out to see who’s best ... long gone. It’s why the 70’s was such good era ... & unfortunately, why in this era, the fans are getting a raw deal. Seems we have two choices these days - an over hyped non competitive championship fight, or a competitive fight - but with no title on the line ... & after a few beer & a two week build up of for the ‘biggest grudge match of the year’ (til the next PPV) we all press the sky button and pay Hearn his £20.

In the last four years or so we've had Joshua Klitschko, Fury Klitschko and Fury Wilder. There is obviously time for Fury and Wilder to fight Joshua; none of them are particularly old. Ali was 32, close to 33 when he fought Foreman. Fury is 30 and Joshua is still in his 20's.

I don't get the point about 'competitive fight with no title on the line' at all by the way.

Looks like he may have signed / be signing a co promotional deal. UK with Sky and USA with ESPN.
