Usyk needs a couple of "warm up" fights at heavyweight

So in summary: One boxer takes a different career path to another boxer, in a different division. A fact from which we can draw no meaningful conclusions...

 

After Usyks run of fight people are now making things up to hate on him!

Firstly, Canelo had already fought at 164.5 lb, so only another 3.5 pounds. Usyk is going up much further.

Secondly, you keep spreading the misinformation that Usyk wanted a tune-up. He didn't.

 

The OP just made up stuff to criticize Usyk.

Usyk did not want a warm-up, team Povetkin requested it to build up the fight and get their guy back into winning ways.

The heavyweight division is a different ball game altogether. No size/weight cap. Doesn’t need explaining really.

 

Learn to google:
Two of Mikey's last three fights were in super lightweight diviison.
Number one of 147 is Bud not Spence.

Also learn math:
Even if you consider Mikey moves from 135, the difference between 135 and 147 is 12 pounds.
The difference between cruiserweight(200) and heavyweight is at least 15 pounds.

 

No problem having warm ups moving up to the heavyweight division. It sounds like the most sensible thing to do, so why is that a problem.
If others want to dive right in, that is their choice.

 

Mikey should have had a couple of warm-up fights at welterweight.

He's an excellent boxer, but Spence is also a very good boxer. Spence is in his prime and is much bigger and stronger.

Poor Mikey is going to be knocked out.

I personally like Horn and have rooted for him in every fight but he's not even close to A grade. His biggest strength is his size and his skills are far from worthy of a world champion. He was not the best in the division at any point or even top 3.

The Linares win has perhaps been devalued by Linares' performances afterwards but at the time when Lomachenko moved up he was considered #2 in the division. And that was the question the OP was considering, i.e. fighters who moved up and immediately challenged the best.

 

Canelo got slammed partially for his cherry pick of a title at 168, all the while having no intention to stay there. When Usyk moves to HW, it's permanent.

BTW, Fielding was just a titlist, not a world champ.

 

a 218 usyk is a serious threat h2h v every top heavy

his skillset /speed and stamina /punch output /is just something none of the heavys will be used to except maybe in light sparring v light heavys.

can usyk weighing 218 fight like he does at crusier / i suspect so he must be a natural 210 fighter anyway with extreme dieting to keep weight in check.

only question marks are chin /looks solid
height difference v tall heavys which is not as easy punching up
true power of a clean 240lb shot .
