Co-main event of a Top Rank on ESPN+ card on St. Patricks Day @ MSG in the "Little" Hulu Theater. Scheduled for 10 rounds at welterweight. Collazo is rated #12 in the division by the WBO, and Vargas is #11 in the WBA rankings and current holder of their North American title.

Height and reach are precisely the same. Vargas has the slightly prettier record, a decade less on the odometer, and is eight years the Puerto Rican southpaw's junior. That said, Collazo has been written off as shot to bits many times before, only to silence his critics with a timely upset...and his ring IQ soars above Vargas, who probably won't ever know 1% as much about the sport as Collazo has forgotten. Plus, I'll never forget this:

(from a thread entitled "best win of 2013")

...and, Collazo is currently 1-0 (1) against opponents named Sam V. :sisi1

I think Collazo takes it by late KO/TKO. He always comes to fight and that right hook of his is pretty decent. But he's up there in years.

Yeah - for that latter reason I'm vacillating between a grind-down stoppage or a wide UD. Vargas is abysmally bad at fighting, but he isn't exactly chinny.

On the flipside, if Father Time does finally catch up with God's Way, of course we all know what happens when a Mexican starts putting the squeeze on a disinterested boricua. :sisi1

I thought Collazo was with Al Haymon, surprised he is fighting on espn.

Vargas received a gift draw against a fairly atrocious Mauro Godoy, so my inclination is that Collazo is just a step above him in class and will either win by UD or stop him in the last 3 rounds

Vargas did pretty well vs Khan even dropping him, but that could be a sign of how little Khan has left. Vargas may be Columbian but not in the same way Eledier Alvarez is since Vargas sounds like a regular white person from Toronto.

anyway I think it's not going to be as wide as people think but should be a 8-4, 7-5 Collozo win (he's OOOOLD)

they both have Khan in common as an opponent and Vargas did considerably better but also Khan did considerably worse.

Cant believe Collazo is still fighting. I was so pissed when he took the title off of Jose Antonio Rivera WAY back. Dude's a fighter.

Collazo stoppage late rounds after pantsing him all fight long. 9th round sounds about right.

I like Vargas. Tough as nails and in shape.
