I have to say this is the most sensible post I've seen on this thread. I agree that you shouldn't take a fighters loses into there pfp ranking only there wins, or at least past prime losses. However I do feel the Canelo win is rated just fine due to the fact Canelo was green and the 152 clause
Your first line is clearly and unquestionably true, and you should've just stopped right there. Canelo is vastly better now than he was when he fought Floyd. It couldn't be more clear when viewing his performances and effort.
I would be interested in seeing your card for Canelo vs Trout. Posted mine above, I know Paulie thinks trout won lol...but Paulie is a worse commentator than he was a fighter
True, but not at the time, after the fact, given he went right back down and never weighed that again for 2 more years. Fair point with a layoff but still it was a mismatch which I knew going in
GGG had also only faced one truly world class opponent before he met Canelo was he also green? Spence hasn't met that many world class fighters either, is he green? Only a handful are not green, if Canelo was green at that stage. And, again, did you call Canelo green before the fight?
Ummm GGG fights before Canelo are simply more impressive than Canelo's fights before May. Are you saying they are equivalent or something?
This whole thing with Canelo being green is only said in hindsight right? Can't remember people saying that at the time. 8 years as a pro, 40 pro fights, 10 title fights and green... Jesus H Christ.
Not by much. Jacobs was his only world class opponent before Canelo. No, wait, Jacobs was also green by your standards, so... Wilder is another example who was about as "green" before he faced Fury. Just that no one thought they were. And for the third time - did you call Canelo green before the fight?
It's simple. You could have 100 fights, and 99 of those be against taxi drivers, and one world class foe. You could have another guy with only 30 fights, 20 taxi drivers, and 10 world class foes. Who do you think has the better more functional experience when getting in the ring against a world class foe? They are miles apart imo on which is better. It matters WHO you fight, and when, not just counting the number of fights. I showed you a list of those title fights... which one was impressive and which one was against a prime world class foe?
I disagree, I think GGG is clearly better than Canelo's. Yes, I absolutely called that fight an easy one for May, and had no doubts about the winner. I'm not sure what word I used, but I certainly questioned Canelo's experience level when stepping up to face Floyd, and that is exactly how the fight played out.
So his 10 title fights were all taxi drivers? Is that it? So you have Jacobs before GGG and Wilder before Fury as green as well? Not to mention Fury himself before Wlad.
Terrible commentating to be sure. I'll have to post a card and we can talk about this fight. It was a close fight, and again I mention that it could've gone either way. I've scored if for Trout, but could see a narrow Canelo win. My point was, that was the first world class foe he faced, and it didn't go all that well imo. Certainly nothing that would lead me to believe he was ready for Floyd. But that is all speculation and neither here nor there, we could assume anything about his condition prior. The proof is in the pudding though. His performance seems to validate everything I'm saying, and doesn't support the opposite theory. I appreciate you posting your card though and we'll have a look
You skipped over the question totally. Could you please list for me that prime world class foe he faced prior to May (sans trout)
I'm pretty sure that's not the word you used. I also picked Floyd to won, without thinking Canelo was green.
THEIR PERFORMANCE DICTATES who was right on speculation before the fight. It's perfectly reasonable to assume somebody might not be ready if they have the experience levels we're discussing here, but that will all be sorted out by the performance. Clearly Fury was ready. Clearly Jacobs was more ready than Canelo was for May. The performance give an indication on who's theory is right, and frankly, it's crystal clear by Canelo's performance that he simply wasn't ready for that moment.
