Errol Spence vs Mikey Garcia - Tall fighters on the outside and short on the inside, right?

It's actually been pretty shocking to me that so few posters have mentioned the fighter's respective corners, team, and ability to game plan and see/communicate in-fight patterns, openings, or holes in their fighter in regards to the potential impact it could have on the fight, possibly being the deciding factor.

Spence isn't a fighter that really makes in-fight adjustments, or rather he is, but not like other fighters. Spence's in-fight adjustments have primarily been punching the gas pedal harder and amping up the pressure on his opponent rather than tactical/technical adjustments high IQ fighters are usually known to make. Two clear edges I think any objective fans HAVE to give to Mikey are in his ring IQ/generalship and his corner. You'd be hard-pressed to find a corner/team as experienced, smart, and meticulous as Mikey's, if a corner/team like that even exists in boxing at the moment. Mikey, Robert, their whole family and his whole team are genuinely very smart dudes, and genius level intellect in regards to boxing, noticing patterns, keys and tendencies, game planning, and preparation for a fight.

Mikey is by no means a bad athlete or even average for that matter, but he's not a special athlete and rightfully peaks athletically as above average. To be as great as he is -- especially on the p4p level -- you HAVE to be incredibly skilled, experienced, smart, adaptable, tough, quick thinking, durable, and technically/fundamentally damn near perfect. Not to take anything away from Mikey because he has more than earned all he has in boxing primarily because he's worked his tail off at it, but to be so gifted in all of his positive attributes as he is, you already almost have to know he started boxing VERY young, was brought up in a rabid boxing family and community, but also brought up and taught by multiple geniuses in regards to boxing analytics.

 

there are so many things about mikey i see that separate him from the the just "good" fighters. like the way he defends body punches on the inside. many fighters, even at elite level, will lower their elbow to block a body shot. mikey will bend into the shot so he doesnt have to lower his guard from his jaw. the way he maintains laserlike focus, through anything. you can punch him hard on the nose and before you have even pulled the punch back, his focus is again locked on your movement. little things like that, i notice.

 

How do you think Mikey would do against JMM? To me, this would be as scintillating as Pacquiao-Lomachenko.

 

i like mikey. mikey and his team know that jmm best chance is his bread and butter, counterpunching. force him to be the aggressor, and mikey carves him up. mikey has the legs and technique to fight at elite level from an offensive position, as well as a defensive one.

 

Spence is actually a boxer. This is the myth people believe. People have only seen the come forward fighter because Spence feels that he will do what it takes to beat a fighter in front of him. No fighter has figured out how to deal with that constant pressure, so why change what works. This fight, Spence will show that! Garcia is in for a surprise. He's already underestimating Spence.

 

Spence hasn't really fought someone Mikey Garcia's level. The only fighter i see on his CV is Brook he looked alright but beatable. I believe it when Mikey says he is a bit better. They both will bring the best out of each other. At the end of the day, class will shine through in this fight. I feel Mikey is just a better boxer. Prove me otherwise but Spence is being overrated on this board in my opinion.

 

well.....Spence is probably a fighter-boxer if you like. He works at the body very well so nobody can deny this.

 

My thoughts exactly .. I'd admire mikey doing the dare to be great thing but I think he will get worn down and stopped late due to bodywork

But pacquiao vs cotto keeps coming back to me where I told all my friends cottos timing and power would wear manny down... Then preceded to watch him get his ass beat while I was mocked

 

Garcia is at a huge height and reach disadvantage. Unless Garcia has an amazing jab like GGG, he's not going to be able to fight on the outside against Spence.

This fight requires him to be the aggressor and it's not going to work well for him against a much bigger and stronger fighter. Not even fundamentals can offset what's he about to face. Look at all the press photos... Garcia is a midget compared to Spence. He's giving up 4-5 inches and height and 4 inches in reach.

The first round will show Spence dominating from the outside and mid-range. That's when Garcia start to realize he can't box Spence from the outside and start being aggressive. He's going to take a lot of fire in the first 3-5 rounds and he won't be able to handle it.

 

Pac would KO Loma still.

 

Pac doesn't need some guy on a forum telling him what he can and can't do. He doesn't fight for you.

 

The 1-2 carrot , overhand potato.

 

Pac would walk through Loma's shots and KO him. He'd sell out and land.
