    tru for them, but not as limited to them as you think.

    basketball has come on but only relatively recently here. It was very niche in the UK 30 years ago. "Hockey" still is. American sports have often been reviled for their "nichedom" over here, until fairly recently that was the pattern here, although london breaks the trend.

    Still I agree with the overall pattern you stated.
