Many questions have been asked about boxers, like did Ali actually punch Liston in their rematch? Should Tunney have been counted out against Dempsey? But by far, I think this is the most important question: Did the young Ali get the stolen bike back? Did he beat up the thief like he said he would?

I think Ali having his bike stolen was just another lie like the one about him throwing his gold medal away into a river. He was probably trying to steal another boy’s bike and got beaten up instead so was taken to the gym to learn boxing but it’s makes for a better story the other way round.

The story came from his mum, so I am inclined to think that it was true.

Final line of Thomas Hauser's "Muhammad Ali: His Life and Times":

"And one more thing. I'm still gonna find out who stole my bike when I was twelve years old in Louisville, and I'm still gonna whup him. That was a good bike."

    Great line.
I am vbery critical of Ali's cruel treatment of some, largely his benefactor Frazier...
But there is no reason to accuse him of even "probably" stealing anyone's bicycle.
    Let alone lie about it.

Why would he go to police about stolen bike if he'd stolen it.

I don't see why a kid getting their bike stolen would be hard to believe.

no wonder the bike never went up for sale or was returned, if he said he was gonna whup whoever stole it. You'd never admit it was yours or even try to resell it for a packet as Alis bike.

It was tossed in the river, so the IOC sent him a new one.

Somewhere out there an old man has had decades of sleepless nights!
