I'll certainly watch it but the standard is very poor. I find it quite sad how badly the UK Saturday night cards have regressed. You don't begrudge buying the odd PPV when you are getting good level Saturday night cards to supplement them but Eddie's taking the Mickey out of Sky and us UK fans now.

Its a tough one as these fights are names to the casual market and both guys would likely sell more and obtain more viewers than say a Luke Campbell but both guys are nothing more than gatekeepers. For me Matchroom are in a tough spot with these cards as their next gen of stars like Buatsi and Kelly etc are for me still a couple of years away from being World champs and known to the casuals and in the meantime they have other fighters that now expect big money but are not PPV fighters in their own right such as Callum Smith and Kell Brook and therefore have to take them to the US. They just have to pray that from their current crop of young fighters in Cordina, Buatsi, Okolie, Kelly, Edwards,Ashfaq, Fowler and Gill atleast 3 of them go on to world titles and 1 or 2 PPV stars in the UK to keep the market here interested post AJ.
For me if they could guarantee one Brook, Burns, Campbell, Khan, Crolla, Smith x2, Yafai, Delboy with one of the above young guns as co-headliner in competitive fights and atleast a 50/50 domestic fight on a saturday night fight night. I would be very happy with that as I know everything above this would be a PPV.

Hearn has pretty much abandoned Sky at this point. He hasn’t put a decent show on all year and we’re in the middle of March.

Agree with that. For me, the stand out star there is Buatsi. Admittedly haven't seen much of Gill, Ashfaq or Edwards though.

Problem with Buatsi is he's fairly uninteresting. Comes across as quite a nice guy, but not that much too him. These days - especially if they want to capture the casual market - he needs to have personality. Dave Allen has managed to somehow headline this show simply because he's captured the casual interest with his personality.

As I said in another thread - people like Okolie, Fowler and Benn are all fairly dislikable, even early in their careers. I think lots of people will tune in to see them lose because they rub people up the wrong way.

Agree with this... i do feel that Okolie could carve a following based on him being dislikable alone. Similiar in ways to Mayweather. I feel like Okolie has started to embrace this with his recent interviews and calling out Whyte etc. If he keeps getting his name out there and they pick his fights better he too could go the Haye route and capture a few titles and move up to Heavyweight and gain a following despite being disliked. Agree on Buatsi but feel they will try to take him down the AJ sportsman superstar route. Edwards I feel like gained a following post winning the World title and needs to keep that momentum.

However part of me also can't lie and say I would not be one of those that stays in when Allen eventually fights Price. Hopefully that's one they put on Sky.

Said it many times and will continue to do so, Price is must watch TV no matter who he fights.

They should do a PPV, him against 12 blokes from the pub, 1 round each. With his gas tank, I'm not sure he's betting favorite.

Yeah true. I actually think Okolie is a bit better than most people think.. perhaps by better I mean effective. He's so tall and gangly that he's pretty awkward to fight against. I think once he steps up properly though he'll show his real level.

I agree on Buatsi/AJ too - but what they've tried to do with AJ is also show that deep down he's a bit of a thug. Buatsi just seems like a genuinely decent guy so it's a harder sell if he's a bit boring.

Seen casuals on facebook saying this is a good card. "You don't have to pay for it so what are you talking about?" was one of the comments that was too idiotic for me to reply to. This is what you're dealing with. Morons who are too thick to realise they are paying expensive monthly subscriptions to sky, and have been brainwashed into believing any decent fight must be a PPV.

Eddie’s latest IFL interview pretty much sums up their thinking.

It’s not about if Sky are happy with Matchroom it’s about if Matchroom are happy with Sky .... are what he said .

It’s a bit like having a long term girlfriend at home , she’s a solid 7 all round but then a 9.5 starts showing you interest . The 7 has been nagging you a bit lately too .

What do you do ? You know you’ll be better off with the 9.5 so in reality you’ll probably put most of your eggs in that basket and hope the relationship realises it’s full potential.

Eddie's getting a bit too big for his boots.
