He would be insane not to accept this. He’s not worth anywhere near that much. Bet he can’t believe his luck.
I suspect they will add some functionality to their model whereas youd need to pay more to watch big fights...sorta like PPV I hope they won't, but wouldn't be surprised if they do.
Yes, I have no idea either. $50 million for Joshua to fight Wilder does not even seem like a large number in view of this
with the amount of money Dazn have flooded the market with, what are the chances they could become a governing body?
I read this due to both @Goose and @KiwiMan responses. My guess is that they might lose money on deals like this, or make very little profit at least, but the effectively buy a foothold in the market and also deal out direct blows to the competition. This also produces headlines and establishes them as a major player.
Every world class boxer right now has to be fricken delighted to be around now with the money that is flooding into the sport. Jacobs getting $15 mill then $5 mill for his next 2 fights even if he loses, the Canelo deal, Fury's £80 mill deal and now a $100 mill deal for Wilder. With the exception of Canelo all these guys would of never made anywhere near this much without the broadcasting war right now to dominate streaming sports entertainment. Even Wlad who had retired is now looking to come back apparently. He's obviously way past his best but he never had the kind of money being thrown at him during his prime which is now available, so why the hell not come back and cash in.
I hate the idea of a DAZN belt, we have enough titles as it is, only way it would be acceptable is if they killed off all the other sanctioning bodies and just had one belt in each division. Hell with the money they are throwing around they should just buy out all the sanctioning bodies and just create one belt.
Even Hearn in an interview yesterday was basically admitting to striking while the iron is hot because the current landscape is not sustainable. He was saying that purses have gone up 3 or 4 fold in the past few years and he gives it another 18 months tops before there's a correction.
If I were Wilder I would ask for a percentage for the fights against Joshua. 40 million is huge but it may be that the fight brings in 150 ...
Yep and his reasoning for UK fighters wanting fight on DAZN shows was spot on. Why would anyone fight in the UK when you can earn 3 x as much in America on a DAZN show.
40 million sound about right to me. If you want a metric, Pacquaio broke 40 million against Maywether but both Floyd and Pac were bigger draws than Joshua and Wilder. Joshua is still mostly unknown in the US.
The only UK fighters that could earn that much are Joshua and maybe Khan vs Brook. I think the popularity of Joshua and events like Froch vs Groves and Bellew vs Haye gave a false view of the UK market. It was a very interesting interview in general, especially around the fact that US venue live crowds are low, even somewhere like Philly when a hometown fighter is fighting.
Yeah and how 5-6k is being called a really good crowd. The DAZN money means Eddie can pay more. His example of callum Smith was ideal. Callum Smith making a regular defence on Sky in the UK only pays so much due to rights fees. Now Smith knows he could fight on one of matchrooms US shows and Hearns budget will see his purse be much higher. Hard to blame a fighter wanting to get some of that money.
i didnt mean literally 500k, i was jsut showing he is used to fighting for much less than 100m this is case in point for what im saying https://www.boxingforum24.com/threa...ownacki-after-breazeale.625913/#post-19726119 no reason for DW to not sign the deal asap, as he said he "offered" aj 50 mil so he should have took it right away, so why doesnt he take this deal right away for 100mil? what is the hold up? he basically lost to a fat man who was going through depression, suicidal, 300lbs, out of shape, hadn't fought in 2 years and got a gift victory in fury. also a win where he just scrapped though a 40 year old senior citizen on blood pressure medication and we should praise him?
