Who created the fiercest fighters in Louis and Tyson? I think Blackburn has a great understanding of boxing fundamentals but Cus' was more innovating.
I think Blackburn's style was better rounded, whereas Cus's style, could be great, but pretty much only worked for a total freak of nature talent, though fun as hell to watch.
I think that Blackburn was a bit more versatile, and perhaps did a bit more with the more mediocre talents.
It was Freddie Brown that really built Duran's skills. Arcel was more the strategist / mental guy. IMO Brown is the most overlooked trainer ever.
Cus certainly seems to have made his name on a very small number of extraordinary physical talents but which mediocre talents did Blackburn carry to the promised land?
A lot of talent is learnt, would Louis have ben any good without his fundamentals? We saw what happened to Mike when he lost his ability to use D`amato`s teachings, a good fighter is a combo of great fundamentals and natural physical gifts.
I will say that Blackburn has insight on boxing Cus could never have, due to being a top fighter in his day. He knew what the stakes were like in true high level bouts, as he had been in them. Cus definitely was philosophically thoughtful, though. I always found it funny that Cus' two greatest boxers had a fragility to them. Patterson was mentally strong, but could be fragile physically in the ring. Tyson was as sturdy a fighter as you could get, but definitely had a mental / emotional weakness to him.
