I'm not even sure it'd count as a punch, backhands are illegal. Good way to stop Oscar attacking though after leaving himself somewhat vulnerable.
It's an illegal move. I'm pretty sure the backhand / chop was banned after Jack Dempsey (nonpareil) was attacked with it,and KOd in dirty circumstances.
True, but I think the backhand ban might be older, I'll need to check though. I think with the pivot blow it's more complex too, with it being pretty commonly used, and it's legality debated at the time. I think the one LaBlanche used on Dempsey was an especially wild spinning one.
10-9 Ike. Both knockdowns cancelling each other out and using the 10pts must system, Ike won the round
Great thread @PhillyPhan69! This had me scratching my head between two scores: 10-9 - the knockdowns cancel each other out, but Ike won the round and it's a 10-point must system. 9-8 - at the point Oscar knocks Ike down in the opening seconds it's 10-8 Oscar, then Ike knocks down Oscar so both are 8-8 and then Ike gets the better of it and gains a point for winning the round, hence 9-8 to Ike. I think Ike won the round pretty clearly so based on the knockdowns cancelling each other out and Ike winning the round, I guess it's 10-9. But the only firm conclusion I've drawn is that I don't know **** about judging! Thanks for exposing my ignorance Philly!
Thanks! I have really started liking to score fights and am trying to learn all I can. I have done some digging and found some tough rounds where a guy is dominating and gets dropped by a flash KD, or one guy gets dropped twice and another 1...or some borderline 10-8/10-10 rounds to see which way most people would go
