You’re forgetting that it’s a mandatory, he doesn’t have to pay him THAT well. Just needs to win the purse or Kovalev can vacate if he doesn’t like it. But yeah I’d imagine it at the o2 and you’re spot on with Gorman - Dubois that would be a great chief support.
Yeah, true. I think either way though Kovalev will be getting a pretty penny. Warren and Arum (who I think has promotional rights on Kovalev) are working in partnership as we know, so I expect a deal to be done , but let’s see.
Just a reminder that everyone who posts in this thread goes into the draw to be the next opponent of Anthony Yarde. Don't worry if you've never boxed before or have any medical conditions. Anthony's team are very experienced in talking you through the process and there's no risk involved to either party.
Yarde has gotten his wish, he wanted world class opponent because he's above British level lol Too bad for him Kovalev is not Canelo or AJ so he won't even be getting paid that much for this beat down.
What baffles me is if they do decide to take the Kovalev fight, how unprepared they will be for fighting someone of his calibre. It reminds me a lot of Terry Flanagan and how he fought nothing but bums for 30 fights and as soon as he fought someone half decent he looked very poor. In facing such poor opposition, Yarde's learning will have been a lot slower than if he went the traditional British then Euro levels. Just don't understand it at all. As a previous poster has already stated, it's not as if Kovalev is an AJ/Canelo draw and won't have the huge purse to fall back on
I agree, it is baffling and extraordinarily to see that this seems to be on. But Tunde and Warren must really fancy that Kovalev is ready to be taken so there willing to gamble. Let’s face it, it wouldn’t exactly be the biggest upset of all time...Kovalev can be wiped out as we’ve seen.
It’s poor matchmaking if they actually think Yarde is potentially world level. However if they think Yarde isn’t world level then it represents clever exploitation- as they have made relatively good money off Yarde and avoided putting him in any testing fights... If you have a lemon on your hands then running his career in this fashion is clever as it maximises your revenue from him as you retain his unbeaten record- you convince many casuals that he is “Learning” because he only had 12 amateur fights.
I would usually agree with you and maybe your right, but they’ve dug themselves a massive hole if they don’t take it now. BT, Yarde, Tunde and even Kovalev are all pushing it on social media.
If Yarde had fought who they talked about in his last two fights against mikhalkin or koelling then that would’ve been not only a good ‘yarde’ stick excuse the pun to tell us what level he’s really at and also good preparation for Kovalev. Mikhalkin lost in 7 against crusher and koelling went the distance with beterbiev, those are the fights Yarde should look at next tbh I think we’ll get some ‘the money wasn’t right’ ‘Kovalev didn’t really want it’ excuses from warren though and this fight falls apart
This would be the perfect summer fight card in the UK to showcase Warren's stable against DECENT opposition: Gorman, Dubois, Frampton etc Beterbiev is taking summer off due to Ramadan and Bivol is on DAZN. I say bring on Kov-Yarde.
