The long jab was killing him badly and then the left hand follow by the right hooks. I give Garcia credit for taking those hard punches and never went down. He didn't run just to survive like broner did vs Pacquiao.
Because you need a good combination of speed, timing and footwork to get inside. Garcia didn't have any of that at 147 because the extra weight slowed him down and his footwork was made for boxing at mid to long range, not getting inside. There are only a few people in boxing who can deal with reach well.
Why did he lose rounds to Lipinets, Broner etc.? Why did he quit against Salido? Why did he duck Linares and Lomachenko? The answer is he’s not good, has never been good. I always said he was Danny Garcia level, however that might even be overrating him.
Because he kept meeting Spence’s jab all night. Also, Mikey is not a pressure fighter. He’s basically a one-two fighter with good footwork. He thought he could outbox Spence, but guess what, Spence boxed Brook punch for punch so Spence is a good boxer too. Poor Mikey. His best weight is 135. But Loma will eat him alive at 135. All he can do is troll 140 for no hopers, like Broner.
LMAO. Here is a youtube video, professional boxer doesn't know **** cause a video on youtube says otherwise. What this guy is doing requires you to be way faster than the other guy and doesn't take into account of the other guy hooking and uppercutting you as you drop in. If it was only this easy.
Because not everybody is Loma. If you want to see a good example on how to deal with reach... watch Loma tool Rigo who had a pretty substantial reach advantage.
Mikey was so easy to read it was almost laughable. Every single time Mikey dipped his head to weave and come in Spence simply took a step back or to the side. He saw it every time.
Spence was excellent at moving back as Garcia moved in and then pushing off his back foot with the straight left. He used his size advantage to the maximum to break Garcia down in the first 8 rounds. After that he started to step in and out man Garcia looking for the KO. Garcia had not adjust well to the additional weight and simply didnt have the footwork or speed of movement to get inside and land regularly on Spence. So the majority of the first 8 rounds involved Spence landing big shots from the outside and Garcia only being able to land the odd counter at mid range. This lead to Garcia being broken down and left as only a shell in there for the final 4 rounds of the fight.
because of spences footwork and length. mikey could match him in speed, by timing his own little hops forward, but spence covers so much more ground than mikey can, that he always remained outside mikeys reach. spence outboxed him, and he never played into mikeys hands which was trading at mid range. he remained disciplined and fought his fight. controlled distance with his legs, and kept mikey outside the danger zone, credit to his team. this was mayweather-marquez, both great fighters, but the bigger guys are great too. i forgot to add, spence never bought into mikeys feints. again, credit to his team.
I’ve never seen either guy lose the range battle. Spence is a good fighter. People are underrating him.
Spence was the better man. Credit Mikey for going for it...he just ran into the truth, figuratively and literally.
