Calzaghe and Lacy were the same size. Spence is bigger than Garcia.

I can see the Lacy/Tyson comparison, but NOT Garcia/Leonard. Do you remember who compared Garcia to Ray?

Based on last night’s performance, I’d compare Garcia to Napoles (Monzon) and Starling (Nunn) — 2 good fighters who lost convincingly to 2 good bigger fighters.

 

I don't see how what I said is not keeping things in perspective. In fact I don't see how it disagrees with your own post at all. Haven't we just said the same thing in different words?

By mentioning that I was acknowledging that it was undeniably a factor. However, to say this was all down to Mikey not having pop in his punches or indeed, all a weight issue at all, is incorrect. His punch output was poor, which was probably largely due to the reach advantage. This advantage still has to be utilised to be worth anything however, and Spence did so extremely well. This was a great performance from him.
I'm not saying that anyone can deny the size mattered, or that it shouldn't be mentioned as a big factor in the fight

 

Surely we cant compare last nights fight to Calzaghe v Lacy. Both fights were dominated by one fighter but only 1 of those fights was contested by 2 guys who belonged at the weight it was fought at.

Its harsh to give Spence no credit at all and its just wrong to go to the length of demanding Spence be seen as P4P number one now. In my opinion Garcia is a better fighter but not that much better that he can jump another 2 weights and beat Spence who himself is a very good fighter. On the night Spence was smart enough to make full use of his physical advantages and it left Garcia with very little chance.

A decent win for Spence, an expected win but overall a pointless win. Why even make it? Calzaghe v lacy was a spectacular night where a large section of the media and fans had listened to all the talk about the massively over hyped Lacy and it was a shock to the system to those that had fallen for the hype including many of Joe's own fans, me included.

 

I don’t think Lacy and Calzaghe comparison are appropriate as quite clearly and evidently are not. Spence thoroughly outboxed Mikey Garcia using his educated consistent jab as a key weapon. He did not have to impose his physicality to win. It was in the last quarter that Spence came forward pressed the body attack. The narrative of Garcia being the better fighter is totally incorrect. Spence is more skilled, more athletic, better defense , power and ring generalship. Anything Garcia tried Spence had answers to.
