Obviously back in the 90s, Lewis and Bowe were the big cats, and today obviously Joshua and Wilder are. Having re-watched Rummy's 90s heavyweight documentary he states, that Lewis (due to only having one belt) was in Bowe's shadow, I see simarlarities with Wilder and Joshua After this whilst reading the Lewis vs Wilder thread it got me thinking, how does Joshua vs Bowe go
From what I've seen so far. The best version of Bowe stops Joshua. Bowe did everything better. Everything.
I'd have to agree here, If Joshua boxed, Bowe would out jab, if they Traded Bowe would match his power with neater punches and better selection. But at mid range, Joshua has his best chance here, if he mixed up with hooks and uppercuts then he could get a KO but Bowe did that better. I can't see anything else other than a Bowe KO
Tough question? I was huge on Bowe potential wise prior to his prime and envisioned a bigger stronger quicker Holmes...he fell just short of that for me and also had reluctance to fight the very best. I like Joshua skill wise and see good skill and power. About 2 years ago and maybe even a year ago I had similar hopes for him. But I also see a similar reluctance to face the best. I would favor Bowe at this stage 55/45 or so perhaps 60/40, but I am not sure I fully know who I think Joshua is or might be. This might be easier to answer in a couple of years
It is, I like AJ and with the 100milion thing with Wilder going on I think he is willing to fight the best. Should Joshua beat Miller in a round or 2 I don't think I'll change my opinion, but if he goes 7/8 and shows me something new I'll give him more credit, but right now he doesn't really do anything better than Bowe
Prime vs Prime, Bowe destroys the overrated Joshua ( I know some feel Bowe was overrated, I disagree, Bowe was lazy. But the skill level was upper echelon, If he had half of J.Fraziers desire, we would be arguing where to place him in the top 10 ATG's) Joshua though, is very Robotic, stiff, seems to be thinking about what he should do as opposed to instinctive knowing what to do. Has endurance issues. He is very fortunate to be a boxer in this era where being a better athlete than your opponent can take one far.
Why'd you think Joshua's overrated? I feel he's overrated by Casuals. But he's quite comfortably the No.1 Heavyweight until someone beats him
He's pretty nice on his legs to be honest but that's true. I wouldn't be surprised if AJ's prime would come up in a few years, kind of like LL's, although I'm not sure I see enough potential in him to overcome Bowe's prime.
While I'd pick Bowe ( 60/40 ), he did not do everything better. IMO Joshua has a better right hand, and seemed to have a knack for landing his best when he really needs it. Hopefully Joshua can fight Wilder and Fury. His resume is full of old men, and has already had too many easy title defenses.
