So maybe @bandeedo does have a point here. Wilders has extremely skinny legs. He probably cant squat or push that much weight for his size. But clearly his legs are functionally strong enough to punch. Because punch he can.

i cant believe its that hard to understand. if muscle strength was an infinite improvement, all brooke had to do is get jacked to ko ggg. there comes a point where muscle mass/strength starts to give diminishing returns. that is tied in to your body weight and speed of reflexes.

No I do not actually see what you are going on about, in fact I would like to see some of your data metrics on your client "Usain Bolt" to understand how you came to your conslusions that more muscle wouldn't help him.

How much is more? I agree there should be an opitmal amount, and who the hell defines the optimal amount of muscle? Show me the equation... show me the diagnostic tests... you can't because it's impossible.

Optimal Muscle Mass for a particular activity is going to be unique for every human being.

The only thing we can discuss is that an INCREASE in muscle mass, however much, almost ALWAYS leads to positive results.

Sprinters are some of the most muscle bound atheletes in sports, those guys are RIPPED as ****. I guess that's all vegetables steroids and pullups yeah? Maybe some swimming too right?

Weight lifting is needed for optimal performance, and guess what, it's already being used whether you like it or not, whether you agree or not... sports science has already established that.

Go check out Jeff cavalier, for every post your write on a boxing forum Jeff is making an educational video about progress and results from weight lifting for ELITE athletes from all disciplines.

    Thank you and kind regards,

tinman, you seem to understand the concepts, and how a person who can think for themselves could have that perspective. is it my explanations lacking, or their understanding?

    You are oversimplifying.

Muscle comes in different forms, fast twitch, slow twitch, type 1, type 2, type 2a.

Not every Muscle bound guy can do the same stuff as another muscle bound guy. Even with the same dimensions and build.

Wilder is living proof that genetics overtake technique... what the hell else do you want? How can be so competitive with Fury and have him down twice while being significntly outclassed skill wise???

You have downplayed the physical aspect tremendesouly, and you are very wrong.

Physical gifts are just as important as technique, if not more... unfortunately...

Totally false, and a gross generalization. Specialized weight training can increase explosiveness, which can translate into increases in hand speed and power.

you need to argue with dealt_with, he was arguing with me cause he thought i was saying technique wasnt important, you think im saying technique is the only thing important. both of you are wrong, by the way.

It makes sense they dont seem go grasp it. They seem to be telling us that the more muscle and strength you have the harder you hit. To a certain point we know that's true. But there comes a point where more strength just offers diminishing returns or even offers negative returns. I fail to see how Anthony Crolla and Chris Algieri doing heavy squats is helping them hit harder. Because clearly it is not.

The elephant in the room is in this discussion is SPEED V TORQUE

Example, those crappy punching machines you see in pubs/bars/etc that measure "power" … and you see the little guy slapping it back at speed and saying ... "oh my god I hit harder than AJ" etc.

Try hit a heavy bag like that and you'll be having your wrist tendons surgically reattached in theatre for the next 6 hours.

Weight training gives you the strength (and the functional strength in particular) to hit HEAVY objects that don't want to move whilst keeping your weight behind you.

I don't know about anyone else, but it took weeks and weeks of practice for me to hit the heavy bag in a fashion that is both hard AND SAFE.

And how the hell do you know when you get diminishing returns?

I gottta hear this one, please educate me?

Finally we have a legit punch meter laying around somewhere?????

no sir. i made reference to torque and how it relates to the weight of the base it pushes off from. it was very much included in my theory.

I don't think anyone(??) is saying the law of diminishing returns doesn't kick in.

    Of course it does
