Golovkin is arguably the MW with the most successful defences in history.

That tells us all we need to know about OP and his miniscule intellect.

 

During spring 2010 Sturm paid the WBA to make him WBA-Superchampion to avoid a Golovkin mandatory for the regular WBA belt.

Later Sturm's last chance to avoid a Golovkin mandatory was a unifying fight with IBF Champ Geale which he lost in early september 2012.
On the same night GGG made with HBO debut. If Sturm had Won the unification fight with Geale he would have dropped the WBA Super belt and only keep the IBF belt to avoid Golovkin again.

Fighting Jacobs in New York was a huge risk for Triple G.

The hyperbole is killing both sides of the argument here.

GGG is neither invincible, nor a bum-slayer.

He's an elite fighter and a physical specimen of iron man like attributes who nevertheless has a bit of a limited style that can sometimes be exposed but quicker and slicker opponents.

Jacobs and Canelo are both nightmare fights for him stylistically and he still comes out of those contests on top IMO.

He's still the best Middleweight on the planet for me, although with the caveats that he is on a downward trajectory and his CV could use a couple more big wins.

 

4 defences of ibf, and perhaps in total 7 of the title he was given, should not be sniffed at. Not many to go till he tops Hopkins, either 17 or 13 depending on your view.

Once he beats elite he will become a bona fide elite too, sadly he lost to his first elite, in his last bout. In fact I tihnk he will beat half a dozen.

Not long now for both of these things to be acheived and become greatest MW ever, you doubting Thomases will believe soon enough.

to be fair Geale was retiring, but it is still a fairly decent win, perhaps 3G's 3rd best win but more likely his 4th best.

In the grand scheme of things it would be classed a weak but acceptable defence of a title.
