They literally have NO PROGRAMMING SIX DAYS A WEEK in the U.S. And, on weekends where there is no boxing or MMA, they have NO PROGRAMMING SEVEN DAYS A WEEK. The Showtime app (if you don't subscribe to Showtime via cable or satellite) is $9.99 a month. There's programming 24 hours a day every day.
They have their big summer of acquisition coming up with Canelo followed by Joshua. Leaking this new plan incentivises those unsure to get on at 9.99 in advance of that. The $99 p/a working out at $8 / per month is probably what they'll start pushing heavily no doubt arguing for little over the price of one Showtime PPV you get a years worth of boxing. Getting more subscribers locked in at that rate will help them in reducing churn.
A lot of people were questioning where DAZN was getting all the money from for these mega deals, well them increasing the monthly fee to $19.99, it's pretty obvious what's happened. Maybe Wilder was right not to join DAZN? What next for Eddie Hearn and DAZN?
They surely haven't run out yet, because the chest isn't empty yet, but they peobably realized that in order to get their investments back, they had to raise the price. They don't wanna go all PBC within a year.
Well it looks like it's the beginning of the end for DAZN. $9.99 was too good to be true to watch the likes of Canelo, AJ, GGG...Usually streaming services like Netflix are $9.99 not $19.99 too expensive
Doubt it. They've just split boxing fans into 2 groups. Its become cheaper for the hardcore boxing fans, price has only doubled for the people that come to watch one card. Youd have to be pretty stupid to subscribe each month for $19.99.
Looks like Tevin "I Can't Punch Because My Eyes are Crossed" will be fighting, what, SIX TIMES THIS YEAR? Or Seven? More like YEARS worth of Tevin Farmer. I'm a subscriber and I haven't watched a DAZN card in three months. And you can watch all the old Golden Boy fights (with the Bob Sheridan calls) currently featured on DAZN, on the RING app, which is free. I don't know how they can double the price when some weeks they literally have ZERO programming. I would like DAZN to work. I subscribed. But I'm not paying $20 a month to watch a blank screen. This week there is one boxing card. It airs at 2:30 a.m. Saturday morning. Apichet Petchmanee (2-0) vs. Shoto Suito ( 11-9-1) for the WBC Asian Silver Lightweight Title. (I'm not joking.) I kidded in another thread that most DAZN cards resemble old ESPN FNF shows featuring low level guys. But I don't think even ESPN FNF would've been interested in this. That's the big fight on DAZN this week. Some weeks, they don't even have that.
$99 is a great price for their current line up of fighters, for $20 tho i would want a fair few other big names fighting on the platform to feel i was getting my money worth.
For 20 a month they desperately need to get better cards on more often. They have a lot of big names, and huge fights are on the way but this week we got Kevin Johnson vs Nathan Gorman. The cards this month certainly aren't worth 20.
According to their website its still 9.99 ill check my bill for this month if that's the case i'll cancel and pay 19.99 only when its a big fight!
When a business that's (allegedly) running out of money, is offering a fighter a ridiculous amount of money, that fighter better take that offer as soon as possible or wait till that business entity is broke, what do you think?
