In the last few weeks we’ve had a few debates about DAZN, whether they are profitable, sustainable and in particular I have questioned where they are getting the money from.

Certain posters (you know who you are) insisted that DAZN would make the money back for the ridiculous and unsustainable Wilder offer from subscriptions and I made it clear that I was unconvinced. I predicted a while back that DAZN would end up putting on PPVs and even said they are going to go bust.

Now it’s been announced that they are essentially doubling the cost of their subscription fee in the USA.

Where are the Matchroom/DAZN/Hearn accountants and financial experts now? All the people who were heralding DAZN as the future of boxing and hoping for the product to launch in the UK - what are you saying now?

I told you that the numbers didn’t make sense and tons of posters tried to argue otherwise. I’d quote the posts but I cba.

Understand that the numbers simply do not make sense and this is just the first step. They will eventually put on PPVs. Hearn and DAZN have absolutely no clue what they are doing.

It's actually cheaper for yearly subscribers.

"A yearly subscription plan will cost $99.99, or slightly less, $8.33, than the current monthly subscription rate of $9.99. New subscribers also can continue paying on a month-to-month basis, but at twice the cost, $19.99, than the current $9.99 per month. Meanwhile, current DAZN subscribers also will be afforded the option of continuing to pay $9.99 on a month-to-month basis until March 2020."

Streaming platforms are the future of home entertainment and DAZN did well to enter the market at an early stage. They are copying the Netflix 'model' who posted profits close to a billion US dollars last year and revenue of over $4billion. I expect to see DAZN side loaded onto every streaming stick and smart TV by the end of the year. Weather it is sustainable remains to be seen but if it is as successful as Netflix has been then the spending is more than justified. Time will tell.

I'm not surprised they've put the price up to be fair. Look at who they've signed!

    Calm down Frank!

What am I saying? That at $19.99 a month it’s still great value and with the annual subscription it’s better value than it’s ever been.

Still beats £20 for a BT Sport PPV!

What exactly are people paying for though? Tevin Farmer, Maurice Hooker, Jono Carroll, James Tennyson, Brandon Rios, Katie Taylor...

It’s already been confirmed that Golovkin is going on a bum run and he will not be fighting Andrade and Canelo. Canelo’s first fight was a walkover and after Jacobs we’ll probably see him matched easy again.

The value isn’t there. And the alarming thing is that when Hearn announced his deal the main selling point was the 9.99 subscription. That’s been blown out of the water so quickly and as I said it will be the first step. This will lead to standalone PPVs.

Quite clearly they are having cash flow problems and need money up front from this year long subscription offer. Any idiot who spends $100 up front when the DAZN shows have largely been bum fests and mismatches is a complete moron. Hearn’s DAZN launch was entirely based on false promises. First he promised a $9.99 monthly subscription which has already been doubled and he also promised to deliver Wilder, Davis, Charlos and Broner amongst many others.

If i have learned anything over the years listening to Hearn is id trust the McCanns to tell me the truth more than id trust him ....He is a salesman and once you realise that it is up to you to pick through the lies and find the grain of truth ....

Be interesting to see the subscription numbers at $9.99. I can’t imagine they’d be substantial after the short period they’ve been operating within the US market. Are they jumping the gun by hiking prices up already?

The money getting thrown around in America since DAZN enterted the market is insane, and probably unsunstainable. No offence intended, but when you have $80million and such figures getting thrown at fighters like Tyson Fury, it’s ending in tears.

Lol I just knew Frank Warren FC supporter CutThroatFade will be all over this.

It's literally to stop people subscribing for one month and then cancelling the next. Hence why they have made it cheaper to pay up for the whole year. Which is still incredible value, considering they have the best schedule in boxing currently.

They just won't ever be profitable, it's almost Setanta all over again, sign rights for everything and charge £10, doesn't work

I don't know what all the fuss is about, everybody knows it is about one thing and one thing only, how to extract your hard earned out of you.
It is the typical exclusive club scenario, where the Arthur Daleys and Co make shed loads of money off the gullible ones.

My subscription gives me many platforms to view but at a cost, and I get DAZN chucked in for free.

It's amazing what you can save when you shop around!!

Just a twist on the truth.

The story here is that for single month subscribers only it’s gone up to $20. Yearly subscribers still get it for $99.

I suppose it’s a way of forcing people to sign up for longer for better value.
