Weird one. He fought Jem Smith, and Slavin (eventually), and Jeffries beat him coming up and Jackson was totally out of the picture when Jeffries was champion.

 

He was apparently a really good swimmer too, though I don't know a lot about it.

From 1886-1890, Jackson was likely the best heavyweight in the world. IMO, he beats Sullivan in these years.

In 1891 he drew with Corbett, In 1892, beat Slavin who could have been asked as high as #3 overall in the world.

Clearly a talent. HOF referee George Siler, who saw both Peter Jackson and Jack Johnson for Jackson was the better by long odds. Well-liked by the press, Peter Jackson could have been a fine example of the first Black Heavyweight champion.
