    Howard Winstone
    Brian Mitchell
    Ken Buchanan
    Barry McGuigan

How would you rate these 4? Do you think the margins of separation are wide or relatively close?

Don`t know much about Winstone other than the fact that he couldn`t punch, Mitchell was nowhere near Buchanan`s level, Ken proved more losing to Duran than Barry did beating Eusabio, but both men`s resume`s are far better than Mitchell`s because of those fights.

Man you gotta check Winstone out. I just shared a documentary on him in this forum...check it out or at least watch his 3 Saldivar fights. Great fighter by my tastes.

Found it hard to split the last two.

I would have to rate all these fighters relatively close on ability and rate them all very good not great fighters. Your very right on Winstone I do find him very underated. McGuigan action fighter very tough.KEN VERY GOOD LIGHT ,SKILLED BOXER.Unfortunetly ran in to Hands of stone. Truthfully don't know never seen Mitchell, just going by accounts in Ring magazine who I find very creditable. Also Winstone one of those fighters overlooked because not a world champ.

I thought Winstone won the title (or a version) and lost it to Legra?

    1. Ken Buchanan

    2. Brian Mitchell
    3. Barry McGuigan
    4. Howard Winstone

All excellent with Buchanan being great IMO. Winstone unfortunate to have to come up against Saldivar and by the time he won the title he’d already been through the meat grinder. Buchanan could have reigned for years but for Duran. Those are probably the top two talents of the four if we are basing purely on skill which Kenny still comes out on top.

Just scene this fight on another thread and after watching your link I`d have to say Winstone actually looked better than Buchanan who was easier to catch after he punched, kept standing there waiting for the bill after punching.

Winstone was very unfortunate to have to face Saldivar for the title back then.
