Fury needs a dance partner. Fights against bums will backfire because he has no explosive KO power. US fans will probably start booing during this fight
Schwarz is ranked number 2 by the WBO and this is the likely reason for his selection. With Dillian Whyte (number 1) likely to fight for the WBC and Jarrell Miller (3) fighting Anthony Joshua that would very likely make Tyson (4) mandatory challenger. Smart matchmaking from Arum and Warren.
Arum and Warren probably tell the WBO what their rankings should be. It's certainly remarkable how often they come out very favourably for whatever matchup they're trying to make. That's not to say the other alphabet rankings aren't suspect, because they clearly are, which is why I'd sooner check PBO, Boxrec or maybe Ring. Whichever you pick, the only people who are classing Schwartz as a top 5 fighter are the WBO and the promoters of this fight. Unless you think Tom Schwartz, best opponent ranked 89 is deserving of a spot in the current top 5 heavyweights?
It wouldn’t. There’s a man called Usyk. He gets automatically mandated. There’s also the fact that Tyson Fury has pulled out of a 55/45 or 60/40 (can’t remember) split with Wilder. What makes you think he’s going to accept 75/25 split as mandatory for Joshua?
@Scissors @Holler So looking at the rankings what would you do? It's the obvious move to make which puts him in a stronger position. This is boxing not UFC.
I suppose the argument would be similar to the Pulev mandatory where Arum uses the leverage of granting a rematch clause to wring a better deal out of Matchroom? That or purposely moves to purse bids with the aim of winning control of he promotion. That would mean offering AJ a huge amount, but maybe they could recoup it via PPV and given Fury needs a decision to win, maybe getting control of the promotion is worth taking a hit on the purses?
I’m not debating that. Just stating the fact it’s not going to make him mandatory and even if it does he’s pulled out of a better mandatory split before so wouldn’t be so sure he takes 25%.
Any world champion Wilder Joshua Whyte (if he is still on his win streak) Usyk Ortiz Klitschko I think clearly all of the above are big fights. Any fight where someone might argue that Fury could lose without anything freak happening is a “big” fight.
Just a tune-up for Tyson.schwarz is no good despite his ranking,we all know that, but the top dogs are tied up with each other & other than that it would just be going over old ground for Tyson.... As cutthroat said, let it all unfold
This is true. But the fact that he faced Wilder so soon into his comeback exceeded all expectations, as did his performance against Wilder. Rewind to 10 months ago and the Seferi fight and almost everyone said he was finished. The generous one said he would need 5 tune-ups or 1-2 years before having any thought of stepping up to that level. Many figured it likely he'd face a few bums and then retire again. The fact that he faced Wilder and arguably outpointed him so soon has skewed everyone's thoughts of what he should be doing now. Having said that, I have no interest in his next fight. Or Joshua's or Wilder's. They are all facing bums.
Probably not. In my initial post though I said by this time next year. I think Arum said the plan was for him to have two fights before the Wilder rematch. ESPN will want to milk him and build hype before risking him in a big fight again.
Not yet as Dillian Whyte is mandatory. Usyk has not yet fought at heavyweight nor has he requested to be installed as mandatory. He might not want the Joshua fight yet. I think you will find in most boxing organisations fighting the boxer ranked above you allows you to move up the rankings ladder. Fury fighting Schwarz will leapfrog him to number two behind Dillian Whyte. It's the most logical fight to make given the current heavyweight landscape and any other fighter/promoter would be doing exactly the same.
I doubt it - Fury would make crown green bowls entertaining - whatever he does you sit up, the type of personality we need in boxing ... & if Schwartz is that bad, might give him a chance to slip in a song or two mid fight ... as was said before - standard poorer, but never ducked a fight in the past & after Wilder, deserves an easy fight before another big one (if the competing networks allow it)
