New school vs the old school.

12 rounds at 135 or 140, I figure both are very close in weight

    16 ft ring

    Who takes it?

Pacquaio should take this. Ross will make him work for it but I like Pac in this one

Me too. Quick hands and feet, good chin, immense pressure.

    Ross is the greater fighter.

But Pacquiao isn't a good style match up for Ross. He had trouble as is with the smaller Canzoneri's speed. Plus southpaw is something to consider.

Manny for me Barney had the skill, but not the power to keep PacMan off of him.

Pacquiao has the fire power and work rate at any weight over Barney. I see Pacman wining a decision just through sheer offense. Barney has the jab and footwork to make Manny reset at times. One thing is for sure though, Barney is leaving that ring on his feet, his toughness and chin cannot be overstated. The shellacking he got from Armstrong was bad but he never even looked to quit.

On heart, chin and general toughness combined, I think I'd pick Ross over almost any other fighter.

Are you sure Ross is greater? I don’t rate till guys retire, and am currently redoing my rankings but I don’t think the difference if there is one between them will be wide. I have not rated Pac in this sense yet, but feel like he will be 20-30 range pretty easily with a case for top 20....but again a little premature for me to officially rate him just yet on my list

For me, Pac is top 50 range, whilst Ross is Top 30 or even Top 20. Those wins over Canzoneri and McClarnin really help him, among others. Those two are better than anyone on Pacs Resume.

Him and his opponents look amazing on film, too.

Well I do rate Ross highly and had him in my 15-20 range 4-5 years ago when I last attempted this exercise. I do think he will likely edge this....and as I said I like to wait for a fighter to retire for 5 years to better evaluate them and their era, I have not gone through Pac to this degree. But I have a feeling he will be in my 20-30 range just off the top of my head.

Either way, thanks. I wasn’t meaning to criticique your statement, just genuinely interested in your take on the statement.

I agree on the 5 year thing, however the bulk of pacquios career is basically done. If he beat Spence or something, then I would maybe reconsider.

The story is Hank took it easy on Ross for the last few rounds and let him stay the distance.

I'd expect Ross to win a decision.

Prime Pac (sadly, now quite some time ago!) would be all over Ross, throwing punches almost non-stop... round after round, without gassing. I really don't see, what Ross can do about it.
