He has a point to a degree but Dempsey is hardly the one I would call out to illustrate it. Jack mostly looks very good on film.

Honestly I don't mind him. Atleast he actually talks about the fight instead of bringing up random trivia. But maybe it's because I've not seen him as much, or just because the standards of commentry in the UK are way lower.

No, he’s excellent. One of very few commentators who calls fights accurately and educates viewers about some of the strategic and tactical nuances that many fans overlook.

Yeah Paulie actually talks about the technical side and goes in depth about what is happening. Hardly anyone else does it.

I find Paulie the opposite of all of these glowing accolades. Personally I think he single handily influences people to see the Wilder Fury fight through the lens of his biased agenda driven propoganda. Fury landed on average 1 punch more per round. We’re they also the harder punches. Yet to hear Paulie call it, Fury is dominating a round.

There was a total of 155 punches landed for punch stat fans. Or 12.9 a round. Fury outlands Wilder 84-71 for again an average of 1 punch per round for a 7-6 edge. This was such a lackluster performance by both guys offensively.

Yet to hear Paulie call it Fury is Dominating!!!! And this is among the greatest robberies....what do many fans say....fury dominated and was robbed. I don’t think Paulie educateds and teaches as much as he influences and forms malleable public opinion to coincide with his own agenda driven rhetoric.

I know, know one likes to believe that commentators influence what we see or think we see. We like to think we are above having our thoughts shaped by the narrative of another.

Interesting tid bit (to me anyway) Floyd and Manny has a private meeting during their negotiations because it was of such huge import that Floyd understood the value of positive and negative commentary upon viewers.

A couple of quotes and a link...I am fine if no one else thinks it is relevant

It's no surprise that Floyd has often expressed his preference that the fight should be broadcast on his network affiliate, Showtime Sports.

The pound for pound fighter is wise enough to realize that a pro-Mayweather broadcast team could drastically influence the way most fight fans view the action as it unfolds in the ring.

When one considers what both fighters and networks stand to gain or lose financially with this joint endeavor, the chosen crew calling the fight could prove to be an integral part of how the overall fight is viewed by the real bosses of boxing, the paying customers.

Should commentators like Al Bernstein, Paulie Malignaggi, Jim Lampley, and Max Kellerman be trusted to call the action without an obvious slant in favor of their respective network's fighter?

TBH, I find other commenters tend to be equally biased, but atleast Paulie gives some insight.

Interesting thing about commentators in general. We have reviewed several controversial robberies in the FOTW threads. What we have discovered is that very few of them appear to be robberies in hind sight. The common denominator in nearly all of them though is the commentary team deemed it to be a robbery at the time or a gift or a hometown decision. Several fights that I once was upset over now seem close fair and balanced.

2 examples I watched Lopez vs Molina I, and felt Lopez edged it. Commentators thought it was close. I had it 4-2 Molina after 6 and that is close to a consensus. Pacheco calls the 2nd fight and begins the commentary with the statement that Molina was robbed in the first fight, and that he can’t see how Molina swept the first 6 rounds and lost that fight. What is the narrative or rhetoric in the opinion of Lopez vs Molina or Lopez in general? That of Pacheco and the continued narrative of Lopez getting gift decisions.

I just rewatched Spinks vs Qawi again and Spinks was brilliant. I had him winning by 2 and can see a 1-4 Spinks win easily. The judges had Spinks winning by 2 x 3 pts and 1 by 4. What is the response of SRL and the commentary. Shocked that it was so close. Spinks should have won by 5-6. Ask most people their memory of this fight and it probably reflects more of Spinks dominating than edging a close clear decision.

I am not above it, I just don’t think a lot of us realize the influence it has in shaping and molding our opinions and perceptions.

I agree. He is **** on Sky. So annoying.
    (Better than Froch though).

Give me some Don Dunphy or crazy Japanese commentaries every time.
Even Howard Cossell wasn't as annoying.

Having spent much of the past year reviewing the lighter weights I have watched a ton of Asian and Spanish commentary. I love hearing them get excited even though I have no clue what they are saying. I also love that they have no opportunity to shape my opinion.

Well i’m no technical expert but Dempsey always looks good to me.
I don’t think he’s wild at all, I disagree with Pauli here.

I don't think Mallinagi watches the film of these fighters properly, or at all.

I saw another comment from a him calling Jack Johnson a 'modern stylist' in comparison to the others.
