A fighter I always thought was uncommonly strong at his weight was Juan Roldan. He was a bull of a middleweight, he was pushing Hagler around no probs at all.

As mentioned earlier Sandy Saddler and Foreman are both great calls as is my man Hector Thompson.

    Cheers All.

Part of it I suppose depends upon what you think strong people actually tend to look like.

They don't (often) look like this:

Marciano, when he was in ring-ready shape, had a physique extremely typical of a weightlifters below the unlimited class. It's hard to explain, but it's a kind of an overall "mesomorphic" shape that's generally broad-shouldered and v-tapered without showing a lot of small scale definition in individual muscle groups. Tommy Morrison had a physique like that before he was on roids.

    Somebody has done their research!

Prime photos with Marciano in condition are typically hard to find, most popular photos of him were taken off season during his championship reign sadly.

Boulder shoulders, thick legs and developed forearms all whilst being a lean 185. Check out Jack Dempsey's back at some point

Btw I wanted to say earlier but didnt want it to be the only thing on the comment, a 210lbs bench at 165lbs using only a pushup/pull-up routine is incredibly impressive. It took me a little under a year to get a 225 bench with a proper weightlifting routine and weighing 200-205lbs

If it's strength that you don't expect, based on appearance, then Monzon and Johnny Owen spring to mind. Skinny guys but no slouches on the inside and good heavy hitters especially Monzon. Monzon's strength becomes even more surprising given his less than spartan training habits and lifestyle (allegedly).

You can chuck in Jimmy Wilde too. Don't know much other than he was a 105lb ghost but had great kayo power.

I always expected Genaro Hernandez and Maurice Blocker to fold a lot more easily than they ever did given seemingly frail physiques.

    Fitzsimmons?

As Holyfield's longtime sparring partner said on another forum, Evander was one of the strongest HWs he has ever seen or worked with.

There's a reason Jeffries was bringing wrestlers into his camp for Jonson. I still believe he developed such sensitivity in the clinch from the battle royales and fighting blindfolded. It's rare to see in boxing but incredibly common in grapplers.

Will be interesting to see how many ATG heavyweight heroes *don't* get mentioned.

I think Holmes won't be mentioned. He wasn't extremely strong, but still stronger than he looked.

The way wilder used ONE arm to toss luis ortiz's 240 pound ass to the ground was crazy. Definitely in a top 10 strongest conversation for that alone.
